Is it really better to use a credit card when booking airfare, or is a debit card just as safe? Seems I have heard that there are reasons to use a credit card, but I can't remember them right now. Or am I just imagining things?

Thought I would ask the pros.:)

You get more protection using a credit card. You'd have to look at your debit card terms to see what protections it offers.

Does your debit card have a visa or mastercard logo? And can you use it as either credit or debit with a pin number in stores? If so, it doesn't matter. Some banks will charge you if you put it through as debit, but not as credit, so some people prefer to pay using it as a credit card. Otherwise, it makes no difference.

A real credit cards (not a debit card where you pressed the credit button on the swipe machine) is safer.

If a mishap occurs with a debit card then it takes time effort to get the money back into your bank account and check you wrote can bounce. Whereas with a credit card you are not out the money while you file a dispute.

This really depends on your bank or credit union. I'd rather be out cash for a period of time than have my credit rating ruined by an identity theif.

Besides, airline ticket purchases are just like anything else. With regards to purchasing airfare - makes no difference how you pay in terms of security, etc.
