We are visiting WDW in October, staying in Disney hotel. On previous visits I remember giving my credit card to the reception and then being able to charge everything to the room. The last visit however was 8 years ago, can you still do the same thing and does it work with a debit card, we got rid of all our credit cards. I am considering getting a preloaded credit card ( the ones you load with dollars or euros before your trip to save on bank charges) would one of these be suitable and has anyone had any experience of these cards?

You can leave a debit card or a preloaded card. I think a few people have had issues with leaving a preloaded card. I personally dont leave a card as I prefer to pay for everything outright.
I do load up a fairfx for food and drink and soul ey use it for that. We took some cash and another ffax car for spending.

Yes, you still leave a credit card on file. When I was there in 2011, the policy was they would not charge your card until the balance reached $1000. I do believe that they freeze or pre-authorize some of the funds on your card, so using a prepaid card would not be such a good idea. I just let them take my regular credit card and then every few days paid my folio in cash so that I wouldn't hit the $1000 limit.

Yes you can still a card on file and a debit card will work. Not sure about a pre-paid card as I have never used one. I have left both debit & credit cards though.

The card will not be charged until you reach your limit (values $500, mods$1000 & deluxe/DVC $1500) or the night before check out. If you want to settle your account by any other means just stop by the front desk at any time and pay it off.

I went in May this year and like you don't have a credit card either. I prefer to pay for everything and don't want the temptation!

So I left my normal Barclays Debit card details when I checked in online and that was fine.

When I arrived I tried to swap it to my pre-loaded fair FX card that had nearly $3000 on it, and they wouldn't accept it so I left my debit card on the charging KTTW and if we did end up charging anything to the KTTW card I went and paid for it with my fair FX card when I was near reception :)

We dont have a credit card either so leave cash normally and a small limit and keep an eye on it :-)

When we went on our first trio for my 21 st i had a card on there and then when we went to see how much the last night we didnt have enough money! It was crazy rining my mum at home to help us so now im on top of it all :-)

Thank you all so much for your advice, so glad I can leave debit card. Still thinking of getting a preloaded card so I can pay the balance off every few days, any advice on which preloaded credit card I should get? I understand some have fees, how does the exchange rate compare?

I love fairfx and have had one for five years now, rate today is 1.53 and i always find it better than anywhere else :-)

Of course it has fees to draw out an atm but not to use the card unless its used in say europe and its a dollar card

I too vote for fairfx. Minimum load is $75 so bare that in mind. I put £60 a month on to pay for dvc dues. Ice is another one and I dont think it charges for withdrawals. It also gives the option of having 2 cards to the same account.
