I'm heading off to Florida at the end of the week and whilst I have a credit card I haven't been sent through my pin number yet. Is this going to cause any problems out there? Can I just sign for things or do I need a pin number?

Thanks

I don't think Chip and Pin has actually hit the USA yet - at least not in Orlando. Others with more recent experience may be able to correct me but, certainly, when we were there last year we never had to use our PIN.

yes, the Americans do use chip and pin, but the UK bank cards AFAIK do not register with the US C & P system, so you will be asked to sign for any purchases

Thanks for that, feel a lot better now. Had vision of going there and having to take large amounts of travellers cheques and cash. Son't think my wife would have been too happy!!!

It depends and what you call a large amount of TC's.
we always take £2,500 in Tc's with us.

Last October we were asked to use Pin number once in 3 weeks. It was at Burger King top of International drive. Expecting more to ask for it this Oct.
If their timetable is the same as UK for Pin rollout you should be able to sign instead until at least end of year.

We did not get asked once for it in a 3 week trip last month :) All my cards are C&P'd though just in case :)

We signed for everything (including a weird thing where you do an electronic signature at WalMart!)

Those credit card machines you sign electronically are weird - my signature never seems to look the same as on the card ! :rotfl:
