Who doesn't see it that way? American Express? Have you ever had a case where American Express did hold you liable for a charge you didn't make?
I've had an American Express card since the early 1990's -- I've disputed charges when a waitress stole my number and ran up charges, I've disputed online companies that sent me crappy merchandise, I've disputed unauthorized charges.... I've never had a problem with them removing the charges immediately.
In fact last month I bought an outfit from an online retailer, didn't like it, and returned it with delivery confirmation. A week went by and they never credited my account. I also didn't even mess with the merchant, just went right to American Express and told them it had been returned - faxed a copy of my delivery confirmation to their number. They immediately removed the charge, contacted the retailer - who never bothered to respond to them

, and then settled in my favor.
As I said, they have really taken care of these issues for me in the past and that is why I keep the card.
