Hi there - does anyone know what the amount is that the Hard Rock Hotel puts on your credit card upon checking in for incidentals, etc.? Thank you so much for your help - it truly is appreciated.
When we stayed at RPR last summer, they "held against our card" the total of what the room would be AND (since we wanted charging privledges to our room) what they estimated we'd spend while there. It's not actually charged to your card, but "held" to it...they want to make sure you have enough credit on your card to pay for the entire trip. This caused a slight problem with our card company (Chase Disney Visa of all cards! ) because whoever figured out our amount to be "held", figured wrong and way too high. They "held" about $3000 against our card in 2 days....no wonder the credit card started "denying" our purchases....but, it all got straightened out in the end and I paid what I was supposed to. So, figure your room total charge and what you think you'll charge to your room as far as eating and shopping, and that should give you an "idea" of how much.
Do they really hold your credit card for your entire stay, I wont have that much on my card since I am paying cash for this trip. Do I have to give them a credit card? I am staying at the RPR.
They will take a credit card as "insurance", but tell them you will be paying cash....they needn't know you don't have enough of a limit. All that happened to us toward the end of our week stay......just be sure to emphasize you're going to pay cash....NOT to charge your card.
We just got back from RPH - if you want charging privaleges against your room, they require a minimum $150 hold on your card. They actually asked us how much of a hold we wanted placed against our CC.

They dont take the actual CC, they place a hold on funds using your CC number. If you are paying cash for everything, just tell them you dont want charging priviledges on your room key. I dont ever use my room key to charge, I am always worried I will lose the key. Atleast if I lose my CC I am protected.

They do not authorize your card for any set amount. They just verify that it is a valid card. I have checked many times after check in on my debit card and my cc and no such hold was ever done (my bank lists "holds" as well as pending charges). Also, many CMs do not know this, as one said he authorized $500 on my debit card, and any unused portion would be credited to my account/cc Needless to say, I double checked with my bank online and via phone and they said they only validated the card, and no such hold was ever placed.
We just returned a couple of weeks ago from RPH and they put a hold on my card for the total amount of the room and estimated charging privileges. I was not informed at check in and was surprised when I got home and checked my card - I also had to call to have them release the funds on my card because they were still there four days after I returned and had paid my bill.
