I know one of the reasons they do not have coffee makers at DLH is that they do not have the wattage to support them.

You can always take tortillas and make wraps. They sell cooked diced chicken that is in the refridgerated deli section. Add some salsa, cheese and avacado for something yummy that isn't heated

Our room had a coffee pot at the DLH. We were also told no microwave but it appeared when I told them it was for medical reasons. I brought a toaster oven to crisp up my leftovers last time we stayed. No problems... Can't wait for GCV to open next month... From now on Toaster, Microwave, fridge and I will still bring the sandwich maker or toaster oven or skillet when we stay at a studio instead of a one bedroom.

Honestly I have a problem with hotel room cooking from both a safety and an odor standpoint......so anything that doesen't microwave or mix with hot water I would never do and hope my neighbors wouldn't either. JMHO

I agree with this 100%. There are hotels that come equipped with full kitchens for cooking. If you are planning on cooking meals, it might be better (and safer for everyone) to look at those.

While I understand wanting soup, wouldn't brewing/cooking it in a coffee pot transfer the taste?

..... or the poor person who has to have soup-flavored coffee

I agree with this 100%. There are hotels that come equipped with full kitchens for cooking. If you are planning on cooking meals, it might be better (and safer for everyone) to look at those.

I know Tropicana has some nice full kitchen family suites.

May I ask what your medical reason was? I'm relatively new to needing to eat gluten free. Being able to prepare my own food makes a huge difference.

I didn't know that they had microwaves for special circumstances...I just love all the info shared on this board!

I tried to bring a toaster once, a cheapo I bought at walmart for 10$ it smoked so bad we only used it once and left it there
since then we bring the following food items to cook in micro on long trips.
Hot dogs mmmmm
ready cooked bacon for BLAs (bac lett avo)
and eggs to poach in the micro to have on bread with bacon
easy mac
uncle bens easy rice
and soup
that's about it, other than the usual fruit & cereal for brekki and we usually end up with too much food we have to pack it home.
I am so glad hojo has the one cup coffee brewers, cause all the talk of coffee maker food has me a little grossed out lol

White water snacks has a microwave you can use. You can only use it when they are open. At the DLH there is a microwave at the coffee shop and there is one inside the little shop next to the pool. The best microwave is at Paradise Pier that is one in the lobby by the bar. It is out 24 hours and you can heat up stuff anytime.

Most of the meals are big enough to share, which is also a bonus!

Oh, we eat too, for sure - and I've never had a cookie last for three days either. But we would rather share a meal and get something extra if we are still hungry than order too much food and waste it (did that our first big trip ).

The trick for coffee maker soup is to run just water through one to two cycles first then do one more water only cycle and add to soup. I love the thai noodle soups since they come in their own bowls, and the flavor is strong enough it doesn't taste like coffee. Yes I have tried this but not at DLR.

We are going to bring our Mickey Waffle iron and make gluten-free waffles for breakfast (something DD will eat every time).

Microwavable stuff is easy peasy though. You can buy any sort of frozen meal if your mini-fridge has room.

Also, DH likes Chef-boyardee ravioli (blech) and DS likes the Kraft "Easy Mac" that can be microwaved.

You can make burritos in the microwave.

I debated whether or not it was a good idea to bring the waffle maker, and have decided to go ahead for several reasons.
1. It's hard to find GF/egg free food for DD for breakfast (other meals aren't as hard)
2. It costs about $.50/waffle vs. paying $7-9/plate.
3. I can make them with my "healthy" extras so I feel better about her eating so many waffles.

I would really just think about when all of the hotels were built, and really wonder how their wiring might be, before bringing electric things that they don't readily supply.

DLH doesn't put coffeemakers in all rooms. But they will bring them if requested. And that generally means that some might not be taken by housekeeping, which might be why there are coffeemakers sometimes and not all the time.

They have those big urns of coffee downstairs at DLH...that's fine with me!

We are staying in Paradise Pier at the end of the month thanks to the expedia op! It doesn't look like the rooms have microwaves. Is there one in the lobby that guests can use? (Please tell me it will be worth it! Expedia charged $14 and then PP will chare $16 more a day. My $100 hotel is now $130. It's our first trip so it's worth it right?!)

Those numbers really threw me, so I had to go look it up.

In my faux booking it shows 15.25 for tax. That's to be expected with the 15% hotel tax (though where the .25 came from...).

They state that 16 per night will be charged, and although that number isn't sounding correct to me (I thought it was 12 plus 15% tax), that's the Resort Fee that is absolutely normal to be charged UNLESS you are booked with a full package or using DVC points. It pays for the laundry room (actually at DLH near the small pool), athletic facilities, newspaper during the weekdays, internet, and parking.

Just in case you didn't know where that money was coming from or where it was going.

It's a shame about raisins....
