Crazy to skip Fp+ for FoP?

Our trip isn't until February, however, I'm already thinking about FP+ for AK.

If we plan on spending most of the day at AK, I'm wondering if maybe we are best getting a FP for River Journey and then waiting in line for FoP an hour or even 15min before park closing? Mostly due to the amazing queue. I won't run over at rope drop because I hate that. I like to take it all in and leisurely enter the park. No rushing or getting trampled.

Though I also have noticed if you check often, FoP fast passes pop up day of pretty regularly. I just checked and it was available this afternoon.

Obviously we'd prefer the minimal wait and then leave AK around 6/7 to make our way to Epcot for evening EMH, BUT hearing so much about the FoP queue has me second guessing the FP+?

If you don't get a FP for FoP then I'd anticipate a 90+ min wait whenever you choose to go.

I wouldn't pass up on a FP for it and I wouldn't try to count on the luck of having one pop up same day. I just looked right now and there's no FP's available today for either Pandora ride for even a party of 1

I'll prob just grab them if I can secure some. A couple hrs ago 3 were available to get for today at 2:55, surprisingly.

Granted the waits are not terrible today really. I'm happy to wait 1.5 hrs in a good queue towards the end of the day after we've done everything over waiting for River Journey which offers a lot less in both experience and queue. Still have a couple months before booking our FP.

This isn't necessarily true. Just yesterday, the posted wait at FOP was 60 minutes right before closing time. The actual wait was likely less than half that.

Yes. But in general, I'd anticipate a pretty decent wait. With a 30-60 min wait being a bonus if that was the case late at night

We'll see how it goes after the attraction is up and running for a few months.

Even the most popular attractions (7 Dwarfs, Peter Pan, Space Mtn, TSMM, Test Track, etc.) have their shortest lines of the day during the last hour or so of operation. I can't imagine FoP being any different.

We have three FPs for FOP during our stay, and wouldn't give them up for love or money. I haven't had a chance to do the ride yet, but from everything I've heard, you should get a FP or two if you can. You really don't know how many times you will want to ride it. We also plan to do both Pandora rides at closing, and River Journey at rope drop (since we didn't get FPs for that one).

What exactly does the FP+ line skip out on anyway? Obviously all the rooms but do you still get the instructional video and see the avatar tube?

FP+ bypasses the science lab which has the Avatar AA in the tube. You will have to go through both pre-show rooms.

OP, to me it like asking, "Do I need to make ADRs if I want to eat at table service restaurants?"" Well, no, of course you don't HAVE to make FPs or ADRs, but there's a huge benefit to doing both. If you choose not to, that's okay -- but then you have to live with the consequences of that choice (be it long lines for rides or limited availability at restaurants ).

I like to think that we here on the DIS have a valuable tool available to us: advance knowledge about strategies like ADRs and fast passes. Many WDW visitors don't know about these time saving strategies, but we do! Lucky us.

Yea I agree. Shortest wait for any ride will be first thing at rope drop, followed by last hour of park closing if it's closing reasonably late. Like 7dmt is going to have a shorter wait on a midnight closing vs a 9pm closing.

It's been up and running for quite a few months now and I think it'll continue to have some of the longest waits out of all the parks at least until Star wars land opens up.

So rope drop or right near park closing is best bet, but mainly my point is that it won't be a walk on pretty much. It'll still have a somewhat decent wait

Well for me since you only get to choose one of the two, we're personally better off to FP+ River Journey that offers a shorter experience and nothing special for its queue than FoP that offers more of an experience and one of if not the best queues on property.

Take now for example, 90min wait for River Journey and 75min for FoP. It's a gamble but I do know I would never wait more than 45min max for River Journey. Have to monitor the waits closer to our trip and see what the better choice between the two would be. If I'm even able to secure any.

FOP is such a great ride that I think that you should still get a FOP FP+, rope drop NRJ and depending on the lines at the end of the night do FOP again riding stand by.

I really enjoyed River Journey. But would take 2 rides of FoP any day. Yes, it is really that good.

Agree with this 100%. It was an amazing experience. We had one fp (each, obvs) for the whole ten days we were there and I checked many, many times for another and couldn't get one. NRJ, yes, but not FoP. Don't take the chance, use FP for FoP.
