My son, Noah, is going to be 3 next week and he is absolutely opposed to using the potty. A friend suggested sending him mail to motivate him.

We are going to WDW in May and I would love for him to start getting letters now "encouraging" him to use the potty since he needs to wear underwear on the trip.

I'm thinking mail from Mickey saying something like "We'd love for you to come visit us as a big boy! Have you been using the potty?" or something like that, then maybe some follow up "reward" letters, from Pooh, Lightening McQueen, Buzz Lightyear, congratulating him for various pees and poops (to be perfectly frank, as you must with preschoolers)

I'm looking for a disign that
a) captures the voice of the character. I don't have that talent and DS calls me on "pretending" all the time
b) is eye-catching and realistic looking to him, without breaking the bank on print cartridges
c) uses a sans-serif font in the body of the letter since he has some sight words, but has the character's signature

I know it's a tough request. Is anyone up for the challenge? I'd so appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Autumn

There is a good potty training book called "Potty Train Your Child In Just One Day". It teaches how to potty train your child very quickly by having them teach a doll how to potty and basically have an all day party with treats, games, videos, etc. It would go along well with your letter request.

Also, do not stress about having him potty trained. Most children learn and will do it in their own time. I travel a lot with my 3 year old. He is potty trained but I still put him in pullups for long road trips and days at parks. That way if we are stuck in a long line...we don't have to stress about finding a potty or getting out of line.

There is a potty letter around here somewhere...I just can't remember who made it. Someone also has also made potty stickers.

Dolly- we've tried just about everything. Potty Boot Camp, train in a day, praise, prizes, mainly it has led to a lot of intentional puddles on the floor and tears (mine, mainly!) All of his friends are trained and his teachers and doctor keep pushing it. I am taking it easy now and hope the letters will be a low pressure motivator. The doctor says he may take extra long now that he has a little sister and is trying to work the system. I'll try just about anything, but I do know that I have a whole year before he HAS to learn. I hope he'll be one of those kids that picks a day to just do it! Thanks for the book recommendation. I'll look for it at the library.

Bababear- these are great! I'm going to print the Nemo one and put it in the "mail" tomorrow! Hopefully he'll get excited about it!

Thanks!

Sent this to our grandaughter about a year and a half ago, she's been great ever since.

I even made up a special envelope, she couldn't read but was excited when she saw the "mickey mail"

Joe-I love the wording! We want him to think potty training is fun. Right now he just finds it to be an annoyance.

Just stopped by to say that it's such a cute idea!

And please don't take it to heart! You are not doing anything wrong, just gotta find the "right" thing for you both. And maybe think about not making it a big deal. I went through this & we just stopped all the hooplah & used a timer. When the timer dinged we went to try.

Good luck!

I'm going through this right now.. We have tried to make it fun. My daughter loves the potty now.. She goes ALL the time.. Every 15 min.. LOL Everyone tried to tell me to use candy, but she didn't like that. The first week, she cried every time we made her go.. We made a HUGE deal everytime she went.. Clapping, Singing, Dancing.. That seemed to work. Now she's going on her own. She calls everyone in to see what she did. Our new challenge is going when we are out..

Good Luck!! It takes a lot more patience than I ever though I had.. Hopefully the letters work. We also got a book with Abby Cadabby and a potty, and an Elmo video about potty that she loves to watch/read.

JoePhila- I just got to work where I could open the letter and it is so cute. I'm thinking about the wording. Right now, he is in utter-potty-refusal-mode. Could we do this:

Dear Noah,

It's me, Mickey Mouse, writing to your from Walt Disney World. We just found out that you want to come visit us in May and we are excited to have you!

I heard that you haven't wanted to use the potty or wear big boy underwear, but I wanted to let you know that it's so much fun! Big boys who use the potty can go on lots of rides and even take a ride on the Monorail!

I bet if you start using the potty all the time, and say goodbye to diapers, Mommy and Daddy will take you to ride some trains, just like the one I ride hear at the Magic Kingdom!

Keep being a good boy, and we'll see you real soon!
Love,
Mickey Mouse

Thank you so much for your help!
