Crazy experience at It's a Small World

Besides, as someone mentioned earlier, it's dark and you really can't see the kid's faces.

Doesn't matter if you can see their faces or not. It took place in public. You have no right to privacy in public places. I've been to Disney World 26 times. I can't imagine how many thousands of strangers' photos and videos I'm seen in.

On the other hand I don't approve of the OP videotaping the children and then posting it on an internet site that is seen by thousands of people. IMHO

ok your intitled to your IMHO
But tv shows, websites, companies and you could say entire industries are built around showing people acting stupid
And show their faces while they do it. (hear you can't even identify them, at least without major technolgy the average person can't get their hands on.)
I don't think you can hold it against OP for video taping.

If you don't want the world to see you and your kids acting stupid, don't do it in public.

At least that's my IMHO.

It's seems as though they feel right at home in their raft because they're white river trash. How could you condone such a thing? The parents should be ashamed of themselves. I have steam coming from my ears!!

So, here is the real question. What do you do in a situation like that?

Do you ignore it and try to have a good ride anyway?
Do you say something to the people, like tell your kids to sit down or something?
Do you tell the CM at the end of the ride and ask to go again?

Do you make some smart-alec joke to the parents like " can I have some coins too? I figure there is no way you all are ghoing to stop so if you can't beat 'um join 'um?

What do you do? Start an argument right there and ruin EVERYBODY'S ride?

I would've high tailed it to a cast member and made a stink over it! They should be reprimanded for that. If they made the attempt to stop the children then I would mind my P's and Q's. The fact that they were replenishing their ammo is disturbing.

I absolutely hate when things like this happen. I don't want a moment of the "magic" spoiled by inconsiderate, rude people. Even if you asked to ride again, it wouldn't be the same.:sad2: I know it takes a bit to forget the incident.
The video was a way to feel that you were doing something, I guess. Too bad the parents weren't smart enough to take the hint.
Is there a way to ban rude people from the parks?:confused3
I wish.
I grew up in So. Cal. and went to Disney alot. Back in those days, I remember there being rules, dress codes, conduct etc. As a child and teenager, I felt like I should be on my best behavior while still having fun, of course. I wish people still had that kind of respect.

So, here is the real question. What do you do in a situation like that?

I know exactly what I would do.

I would quietly and with a concerned tone say to the adults, "Please don't let the kids throw the coins at the figures, I think they are damaging them."
And, if the adults continued to ignore the coin throwing, I would say a little louder, "Kids, you have to stop throwing the coins and damaging the figures!"

If you yell or get confrontational, it will just escalate.

You are in a public place, hard not to be videotaped. I don't like the posting on Youtube, but that is the world we live in.

I'm not making excuses for the family, but I've overheard on more than one occasion during my rides on ISW about the coins. Many people believe they are given to Unicef or some other world children organization.

My kids have asked for coins before, but I never carry money around the parks. I probably would have given them a penny or two to DROP into the water.

In no way do I condone what the children did. I also think it is very irresponsible of the parents to allow them to do it. On the other hand I don't approve of the OP videotaping the children and then posting it on an internet site that is seen by thousands of people. Some people are protective of their children and do not want their images posted on internet sites for anyone to be able to download. If you had a problem with what they were doing you should have reported it to a CM. What good is it to post the video here on the boards? Vent all you want that is what we are here for, my issue is purposely recoding them and posting it. IMHO

Your expectation of privacy goes out the window as soon as you step into a public place, such as Disney. Welcome to the technology age. I am sure my image is on some video or picture that is posted on youtube, myspace or facebook.

Also, I'm sorry, but I find it strange that you are so concerned about a grainy video where you can't see the kids faces (and they aren't even your kids), but you have a picture of a child (I assume that is your child) on your signature? :confused3

That is horrible and ridiculous!! I guess to the posters that are concerned about the video taping..........better not go to WDW again as in as much video taping that goes on-I am sure that all of our children are in someones videos on you tube!! lol

Yeah but UNICEF doesn't have to go into the attraction and dig the money out of the wooden characters. :)

On our keys to the kingdom tour in February 2009, our guide told us that misbehavior can result in the county sheriff and aides waiting at the exit. There is a famous (and true) story of "flash mountain" where a young woman did just that and was forever banned from WDW.

Throwing the coins could be willful damage or endangering the lives of others?

I'm sorry to derail, but after reading Kingdom Keepers with my nephew, I had a totally different image in my head when I first read the thread title. :rotfl2:

If my kids did that, I'd be dragging them to security, and signing them up to an over night cleaning and painting detail, or at least trying to. That is crazy, and disgusting that parents would not only allow that kind of behavior, but encourage it.

Wow What are these parents thinking? This is part of the reason Disney has to keep raising their prices to repair and clean the damage caused by inconsiderate guests. These kids did not think it was a wishing well that's obvious by the way they are whaling the coins at the characters, they are using them for target practice. And about the videotaping. While I don't care for others videotaping my kids I realize it's a possibility when in public places and a bigger one if they are acting like fools. Besides you can't even see them so that voids the issue for me anyway.

I agree 100%, this is what I would have done. If the kids still didn't stop, I would tell a CM as soon as I got off the ride. The kids were hitting people with the coins, that could hurt someone if they got really crazy with them.
Better yet, I would have faked them into thinking they were going to be in trouble by pulling out my cell phone and pretending to be calling someone in WDW security, and pretend to be an employee advising the CM's at the exit of the ride that someone needed to be removed from the park for vandalism. I know people aren't supposed to impersonate CM's, but this would have to be an exception. :wizard:

I also wanted to add that I would have reported them at the end and asked to ride again because I know there is no way I would have enjoyed myself with that going on. Of course when your in the situation these kinds of decisions aren't as easy. I'm always the type to say "I should have said this" or " I should have done this". I'm glad you got to ride it several times so that you did actually get to enjoy it.
