Craigslist?

For those of you that have sold stuff on Craigslist, when the people come to pick up the item, do they come to your home or do you meet them in a public setting. Also do you go alone or have another adult with you?

I would meet them in a public place, and have someone else with me as well. You can never be too careful.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing but I was not sure if I was just being paranoid.

I've done both.

Furniture; they came to the house....my husband was here. I wasn't worried.

A stroller; I met her at a central, public location by myself. I wasn't worried.

Take any precautions you feel are necessary, depending on what you are selling and to whom.

Always in a public place (and have a bodyguard) I use my 14 yo DS he's bigger than me - And try not to use your home phone # I have heard of crazy people stalking #'s

I recently sold a stroller on CL. The lady came to my house (my mom was here at the time so I was not home alone,) and we conducted the transaction outside. I was not worried.

I sold tons of my baby items/gear on craiglslist (and some furniture too) Most of the time the people came to my house. Someone was usually here with me, but I always did the transaction outside, except once. I met someone once in the hospital parking lot (my son had an appt inside) I never go out of my way to sell something to someone. One man was 45 minutes away from me and he wanted me to meet halfway to buy a $4 snow suit I had up for grabs. I only buy from people who are nearby enough for me to pick it up to make it worth my money, I don't know why people would drive so far such a cheap item when they could probably go to their local salvation army or whatever and save the gas money. In retrospect, I realize I wasn't being very safe having these people come to my house, you never know who you are talking to.

It depends. If I'm giving something away, I make them come to my home since I'm not getting anything out of the deal. If it's something I'm selling & it's over $10, I'll arrange to meet them somewhere. I do live in a rural area and sometimes items move faster if I agree to meet.

Many times I am home alone with my son or will meet them somewhere just the 2 of us, but it also depends on who is coming. I recently gave away a microwave and it was a guy trying to pick it up from me. I made him wait until I knew my husband would be home. Sometimes you just get that vibe from your correspondance with people. Go with your gut!
