I got my first scammer for an item I am selling. "I will pay $50 more than asking price. My secretary will send certified check as I am out of town. My mover will pick it up...." Do I just delete it or respond not interested?

I do not have experience with craiglist but I would say cash only when picking up. If a check comes back bad, you will be out the money and the item,

I don't know what it is, but everything I have listed on CL in the last few weeks I've gotten almost the exact message. No secretary, but he's sending his mover!!! Uggh..so frustrating.

It's a scam. Just delete it and move on. No point in responding, they don't care.

I get sooo much spam from craigs list that its pretty much not even worth it. Just delete it and don't even bother responding.

I prefer to amuse myself at their expense. I give them an interesting name, and the address and phone number to a public place. I can't confirm or deny that checks have been sent to a certain Christopher Robin in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

It's a scam
We had this sort of thing happen too. DH put an ATV on Craigs list, Got a resonse, guy wanted it but was from out of state wanted to send DH certified check, then have a "friend" pick up quad as soon as we got the check. The thing was, the cashiers check he had, was for $2000 more than the quad, so we could take casiers check to our bank and deposit it and get the guy "change".;)
We knew that this sounded really funny, but DH played along.
We got a cashiers check in the mail, and went right to the bank it was made on. The cashier just asked if we wanted to deposit it or cash it, we told her we want to know if its good. She didn't know but told us to come back when the manager returned. We did. The cashiers check was an old, most likely stolen cashiers check, with the signature that Wells Fargo used years past (it's like a stamp) If we would have cashed the check, we would have had to make it good to the bank when they realized it was bogus. We turned all the info we had in to the fraud division.
We felt like detectives. :) But we knew what was up, how many people get taken every day.:confused3

got a similar message for an ad we placed. I responded with "unless you can meet me face to face with cash, NO DEAL!" Of course I never heard back.

Even worse, today on the Atlanta news, a guy that had a car posted for sale on Craigslist was mugged, and his car stolen, when he met the 'buyers' from Craigslist.

What public place did you have them sent to? My husband's name is Christopher Robbins, we can check while we are there and see if there are a ton of checks waiting :lmao: When I used to take his check to the bank the teller there loved seeing me, he got such a kick out of waiting on the wife of Christopher Robbins, I know it's not the same name but it's so close he has always been teased about it. This man wanted to know if his grandkids could meet my husband :rotfl: Um, really, we do not live at the 100 acre wood :lmao:

That secretary must be really busy! I listed an old bedroom set for my parents. W/o even looking at it I got the "out of town but will pick it up" email.

Lowered the price a little, sold it to a nice guy who is getting a divorce and needed a bedroom set for his DD at his new apartment. :lovestruc

Don't respond: that gives them your real e-mail address. When they contact you from Craigslist, your address is anonymous, so they only have your real info if you respond.

More typical of the gazillion eBay scammers that come crawling out of the woodwork.. Delete it and move on..:thumbsup2

This makes me nervous because the first email is always just is it available. I respond yes and then I get the next email asking for info. What can they do with my email address?
