Craigslist negotiating

The only people I won't haggle with are the ones who put "firm" by their price.

I think everything is negotiable...within reason.

I to sell a fair amount of CL and I will never haggle via email. If you show up and wanna haggle I am all for it!

I have the total opposite view. I want to agree upon a price before we
meet. I would be ticked off if you said you want the item, and then I show up and you start to haggle. I would hold-out and see if anyone wants to pay full price. If not, I'd relist the item and drop the price if I wanted to sell it quickly. JMHO.

Craigslist is a crapshoot. When selling, I find I get TONS of people who respond with "I will take it" or "Sell cheaper?" or "ok 312-555-XXXX" and really weird bizarre responses. I automatically delete them. Sorry, if you can't speak proper English or speak in complete sentences, forget it.

As for pricing, I post a price I want to get and mark it FIRM. If people email for less, I just delete. But you know what? Most stuff sells within 2-3 days and for the price I want.

YOu don't have to sell the $40. item for $5. after the person made his trip over to buy it.

No, you don't have to sell the item, but if I as the seller have arranged to meet you and sell for a certain price, you can bet that I am going to be really ticked if you don't buy it at that price. Now you have wasted my time, and possibly made me miss other buyers who were interested. I think it is fine to haggle via email or a phone call, but once the price is determined and you arrange to meet, the buyer should honor that.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:I had a guy this past summer who was interested in some furniture I had and said he'd stop by. Hung out all day, standing upstairs when a car creeps by slows down, then leaves. Get a call 10 min later from the guy, telling me it was junk (it was pure maple), and I should pay him $10 for his time and gas for him to even come by! WTFudge??? Total nut.

just wondering (if you're willing) what types of things you sell on CL. I won't sell unless I can meet the buyer at a public spot. I don't want strangers at my house.

Dson-in-law sells quite a few items on CL every single week.. He lists the item for more than what he /we actually want - someone offers less - and he/we end up getting the exact amount that he/we originally wanted..:thumbsup2

Haggling is perfectly acceptable on CL and I think someone would have to want something extremely bad to immediately pay the asking price right off the bat..

Just last night Dson-in-law received a phone call for a high ticket item he was selling.. He priced it higher than what he wanted, the "haggler" offered what the price that Dson-in-law actually wanted for it and an hour later, a meeting was arranged, and the item was sold and gone..:thumbsup2

It's a great way to make money if you take the proper precautions - delete the wacky emails - make the proper arrangements for pick-up.. And best of all it's cold, hard cash in your hand - without anyone charging you fees or making a bogus claim to Paypal to get the item for free.. Much, much easier than eBay - and especially so if you are selling very large items..:goodvibes

It's also a great place to look for large items - that would cost an arm and a leg to be shipped if you purchased it on eBay - and rather than ending up in a bidding war, you just offer what you're willing to pay and that's that..

If make safety your top priority, it's a win-win for buyers and sellers alike..:goodvibes

I dont bother with any emails. If someone really wants to buy, they will call you.

if you going to haggle then do it before you sacide to meet. I'd be very annoyed if i ws selling something for $20 and was told they'd wanted it and would meet to pick it up, then arrive and offer me less. To me thats rude!

If a person has price is firm dont bother haggling.
