Great acapella performances give me goosebumps!!!

Straight No Chaser doing "I'm Yours/Somewhere Over The Rainbow"

Pentatonix "Carol Of The Bells"

And anything from The Voices Of Liberty

And the Dapper Dans are always fun.

Why the Acapella hate, Craigster? :flower1:

Craig doesn't like rap either...I think he feels every rapper is Pitbull or something. The ignorance is astounding.

But yes, acapella groups are neat at best.

I've never heard of acapella so I watched the videos Kathy posted. They aren't for me - I got bored pretty quick. At least now I know what it is and that I don't care for it.

Maybe if they sang Smoke on the Water..........

Well, Craig and I agree on Rap. You rappers are on your own. :duck:

I'm thinking a nice acappella rendition of "I'll take you home again Kathleen" would be in order. All verses with all repeats.

Haven't seen the episode yet, but I have to say there was an AWESOME a capella group called Toxic Audio (think some of the original members go by Vox Audio now) years ago that used to perform at the Jazz Club on Pleasure Island - they were off the hook! They not only did a capella, but used to simulate instruments (drums, guitars, etc.) with their voices, and did comedy bits, etc. I even saw them off Broadway when they came up this way several times. I know some of them started either at Disney and/or Universal. Don't know if anybody else remembers them.

Oh Jack - I highly agree - no rap for me!!! BLECH!!!! "Back in the day" when rap FIRST started there were a few "good rappers" (when you could understand the words, and everything was not about killing, cursing, drugs, anti-female, etc.) but that was a LOOOOONG time ago - early 80's at best! I will say that I still hear some LL Cool J or Will Smith I like every now and again. But again - they are more "old school" as mentioned.

Oh my. The ignorance flows even further than I thought!
Most of y'all don't even know good rap music and just assume everything is Pitbull or violence or Bla Bla Bla.
I mean, it's fine if it's not your thing. That's great. I don't like country music, but I can understand its appeal.

But yeah, there's tons of good hip hop in varying degrees of styles. To just write it off as (insert stereotype) is too dismissive.

Or whatever. I don't care. We're all just passing time on this ball in space. :hourglass

I'm with Craig on this one. LOVED today's podcast! Kevin had some one liners that would rival any of his classics. Very funny show!

Haven't finished watching, but yes - very funny show so far. I also have to say that if the movie about Walt's head ever gets released, I MUST see it - not only the premise amuses and fascinates me, but just to watch where/how this guy goes about filming the whole thing.

I also have to say huge kudos to Dreams Unlimited for making that awesome donation to GKTW instead of doing the live show during Disapalooza. They certainly do not have to do ANYTHING, and I think this scope and type of gift is awesomely laudable!! :yay::worship::disrocks: The have definitely "put their money where their mouths are" on this one. I only wish I could meet and thank them in person!

Last (but certainly not least) all the happiness in the world for a long, loving, healthy life together after your wedding on Friday, Craig and Kiley (hopefully I'm spelling that right).

Wow - ignorant? Sorry, but I'm taking that personally, and I find it a bit harsh.

Don't know how far back your rapping listening goes, but I'm comparing today's stuff to "back in the day" (late 70's, early 80's)when the Sugar Hill Gang and Kurtis Blow were the style of rap I'm talking about, and I used to love and listen to. And having lived in Englewood, NJ, I personally knew the founders and members of the Sugar Hill Gang, and the Robinson family, who founded Sugar Hill Records. I do admit at not being "up" on current rap, as when I HAVE chosen to listen to it anytime in the recent past, what I heard of it (a small segment, I'll agree, but didn't have time or interest to listen to more) was talking about exactly what I said. I also watch the show Empire - and - while I love the show - the rap is about all those "negative things" in mentioned. So sorry - I really don't think I'm "ignorant" at all.

Oh man. Just last night I recorded my acapella version of a Pitbull song and was going to send it to be played at Craig and Kylie's wedding reception as a gift. Guess that was a waste of time.

I LOVE acapella too!! The movie, Pitch Perfect, totally got me hooked!

Lolz
I see you have a misunderstanding and overreaction.

Ignorant
Adjective
lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular

Therefore, I was pointing out some of you are ignorant to the topic.
One could say I am ignorant to foreign policy or ignorant to classical music, as I am not informed enough to really speak to it as an expert or a set-in-stone view.

But if you took it as a dig, well I'm sorry for the ig.. misunderstanding.

Okay, I'll agree to disagree about rap. And I'll also agree that everyone is entitled to their own likes, dislikes, and tastes. And I will also ignore the ig - LOL - and assume that you now know - based on my posts - that I am pretty much not ignorant - at least not on this subject, or in this case. I also do not feel I overreacted - but again - agree to disagree......sound cool? :)

I'm a very strong supporter of acapella. Although I thought Pitch Perfect wasn't the best representation of the art form. As a singer I love how complicated and intricate the arrangements can be.

That being said...we had the task of watching American Music Machine at Epcot last week and I was appalled! We sat and witnessed a group of performers being forced to screlt (scream/belt) through their entire set while suffering through horrendous arrangements and bland staging. Not to mention that audio mix was so off it killed what ever decent vocals were going on. The lead mic was always too hot while all BGV (back ground vocals) mics were pulled so far back they were lost in the mix.

The main thing that bothered me though were the arrangements. It doesn't make any sense to me that an entertainment company that produces the brilliance of Voices of Liberty could fail on such an epic scale with American Music Machine! You have amazing arrangers and vocal directors on staff! Why aren't they working with this show as well?

Ok I'm off my soapbox now. Great show this week!
