Looking for directions on how to make two things:

A friend showed me a couple of items they made at a recent retreat. They are Christmas decorations. I think they would be cute for my girl scout troop to make. Now I just need directions.

One was either a glass or clear plastic ball ornament. They put in a couple of drops of paint (two different colors and just kind of rolled the ornament around until the paint had covered the entire surface inside. Then just tied with a bow around the top. Really pretty. I can figure out how to do this....just not sure what type paint etc.

The second was snowmen made from the material like the soft fleece scarves.

If you have any idea where to find directions for these it would be great!

Thanks!

I think that this is what you were talking about. I've also seen it done with nail polish instead of paint.

I'm not sure about this one. Can you give us some more details?

Thanks! That's what I was looking for. I wonder if I can find clear plastic balls anywhere? My group is Daisies K & 1st grade....so not sure if glass is a good idea.

The other item (snowmen) was just like the top part of a snow man/woman (hat/head/scarf). I'm thinking the hat was more like a toboggan not really like a traditional snowman hat. They used a pattern winter print for his hat & scarf and then just plain white for the face. I'll have to see if I can get her to send me a picture. They were really cute.

You can get them at Micheal's.

Thanks!

We are making ornaments at our first December meeting.

I still haven't found the scarf snowman I was looking for but found three really cute ideas that might be easier for the little girls. Including the links here in case anyone else is interested. I especially love the third one!!!!! Think the little girls would as well.

Thanks all. If you have any other ideas please post them. Looking for cheap and easy. We are a new troop so we don't got lots of $$$ in the bank. So far the things we have made I've had supplies in my craft bin at home and haven't had to purchase anything except beads to make bracelets from the Daisy petal colors.

Usually Michaels will put their clear glass balls on sale before Christmas, and they usually have the paint right beside them. We've done those before.

Another easy one is to take scrap paper, cut them into strips, curl them around a pencil, then shove them in the clear glass ball. Fill it, then cap it and tie with a ribbon. The paper will unfold a little and make pretty swirls. We've done it a couple of times. Once using Christmas wrapping paper, once with scrapbook paper.

As far as the paint goes, we've used tempa, craft paint..... Whatever we have handy. Plastic is best for younger kids.

Thanks for the great idea. I was just thinking that another thing that would be pretty is to take the wire tinsel (can usually find all kinds of sparkly at dollar tree for $1) and put inside the clear ornament.

My local dollar store has lots of ornaments--they might even have the clear plastic ones.

Any of the liquid acrylic paints in the BOTTLES will work for squeezing in and dribbling the paints around. :thumbsup2 some companies are: Delta Ceramcoat, Folkart, Americana Decoart.

Here's another idea for the clear ornament balls you may enjoy making. They are photo balls. They look really fabulous when done and can really be personalized by what pictures you place inside. The bigger balls look better because you can put a decent sized photo inside.

Thanks for the great idea! Those are beautiful!

Just wanted to post......I was able to contact the person who lead the workshop making the fleece snowmen. She is going to send the instructions to me.....snail mail. I'm hoping they will be in my box today or tomorrow. When I get them I'll post here for those who were interested.
