We are staying at the CR in 2 weeks...my question is...
For those of you who say that you get complimentary upgrades sometimes...do you come right out and ask at check-in or do they just offer them to you without you requesting one?? I don't want to sound pushy by asking...I don't expect to get one....but if it happened it would be nice!
Any advice? :confused3

Some ask, we never have or would without offering to pay the difference.

Free upgrades we have gotten have just been offered to us without asking.

AT CR we requested North Wing - we reserved a room at WING price - year was 2002. When we got to CR we found out the Military's resort was being rehabed, and the Military were staying in the North Wing of the CR.

I guess civilians do not stay in the same place as Military.
CR told us we did not have a Wing room- we followed their directions to our room.

We were given a 6th floor tower room - above Chef Mickeys (you could hear the song in our bathroom) - if you looked down from our balcony you saw the front entrance and cars, plus the roof of the convention center. BUT - if you looked staight across from our balcony you saw MK, the monorail and fireworks at night from MK.

But hey we paid an AP Wing rate for a tower room (NOT perferred lake side).
Not a bad bump.
I can thank the Military for our pixie dust to the tower :)

we went in sept. when we got there hubby asked I was in the car (I would have died) Anyways, they let us upgrade from a wing for half price(??) we paid I think around 300.00 and then during our stay we had to move because of a water leak and they gave us back 200.00. I have a picture of the kids looking @ the castle from our balcony as our wallpaper on the comp. DH told me this a.m. he hates the pic. he wants to go back.

go in the off-season, be excited (not like a puppy, but star-eyed happy) and friendly at check-in, don't expect an upgrade and if it happens be tickled. If you wait in line at check-in, pay attention to the CMs behind the desk...hope/try to get a CM who is observant/quick-witted. If you see a CM having trouble understanding the computer (confused or navigates thru the screens very slowly), or is in training, just let the people behind you go first. :)

We've been upgraded from parking-lot wing, to 11th floor MK-view. And we've been 'down-graded' to south wing (but asked/insisted and got the change to the north wing as originally requested when booking). Approached both the same, so it's just chance/luck.

Best of luck, and have a great trip! All CR rooms are great, but the tower is to die for (or at least worth the extra cost, IMO).

That's really the best attitude to have. I'm not sure how much the rehab will affect the availability of upgrades at the CR though. I'm sure in any case, you'll have a wonderful time.

We went in April 2003 and had booked a wing room. We waited at check in and were assigned a wing room. I figured it wouldnt hurt to ask, and asked if they had any special upgrades. We were upgraded and paid for it. We paid about $300 more for our 7 night stay. It was wonderful being in the tower. 11th floor, MK view.

My sister went later in the same year, but at a much less busy time. About the second week in Dec. They were booked in a garden wing room and didnt ask and were given a :cheer2: complimentary :cheer2: upgrade to a tower room, MK view.

I think it has a lot to do with the time of year that you go. :dog:

We're going in June 2006 - already paying for Tower MK view but would love to be upgraded to Concierge. I've always found during previous stays at the other deluxe resorts that the more friendly and cooperative you are during check in (leave the kids with Dad in the other part of the lobby so you're not distracted) the better chance you have to receive some perks!

We started making our annual trips in 2002. In Oct. 2002 we were booked for a garden room. We arrived at MCO and got to the CR well before check in time. My daughter, then 4, and I checked in and had just the best Cast Member. He was great to my daughter who was bouncing off the walls. Check in seemed to take awhile (much longer than the years since.) When we were done, he gave me the phone number to call at 3:00 to get our room number, but told me it would be on the 12th floor. I was a little surprised, and asked if that was in tower. He said of course. We were shocked. When we called in later and returned to the CR, we went to our room and realized we were on the Concierge light floor with a great view of the Castle. My daughter was tired that night and we were able to watch the fire works from our balcony. It was a great surprise and started our trip off great. We never asked for the upgrade, did not expect it, but wow was it great. Because of that upgrade, we always get tower rooms.

We are headed back to the CR tower in 20 days.
