Long time lurker, this is my first post! Hi everyone!!

I have booked the CR from Dec.13-18 in the garden wing and I have been so excited. I guess because it's so far off, I have had lots of time to second guess my decision. Please all you CR fans tell me all the reasons you love this resort. There are five of us so we need a room for 5 (or two rooms elsewhere) and I have wanted to stay at the CR since I was a little girl. I just want to hear all the good things about it. Thanks!!

Goofyshell, welcome to the Dis (even though you've been lurking for years)! ;)

The CR is a great resort. I think I love the swimming pools best of all. Plus, the monorail can't be beat.

Please check out the CR FAQ thread here on the Dis -- click here to view it.

I Loooove the CR! The rooms are the largest standard rooms on property and the resort is just awesome. Having the monorail to ride instead of the bus is worth its weight in gold!;) This is the BEST arcade on property according to my 10 yr old, the pools are great and the restaurants are wonderful!(California Grill, Chief Mickey's and Concourse Steak house)

You made a great choice - ENJOY!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I am a Cont lover! I know many people say it's not their cup of tea design-wise, but we LOVE it!

You can't beat the location! You can WALK to MK!!!! That in itself is a great plus!

You've got the monorail and it goes right through the resort. Way cool.

You've 3 great restaurants; Chef Mickey's, Concorse Steakhouse, and California Grill.

The elevators talk! They are different characters telling you what floor you are on!

The rooms are huge!

Great game room!

When I stay at the Cont I really feel I'm in the middle of the magic. The heart of the magic. Can't explain it. It's just the way it is.

If you are a non-smoker, I'd request North Wing. That way you'll be closer to the bus stop, MK and the food court.

CR is all about Disney! First resort built by Walt (and he got to see it), monorail runs right through it, buses right outside the lobby, talking elevators, views of MK (personally I like the view from the monorail across the bay looking at CR), short walk to MK, 1 stop to the transportation center, 1 stop from MK, Chef Mickey's, the shops, my 2 yr old loved the arcade and after 2 days would get off the bus, run through the doors and lobby right to it.

I stayed in the garden wing last month (south) and loved it. Its a short walk to the main tower (not really a hassle unless you forget something or want to run back, bu then again if staying in the tower youd have to walk back to your room). You can park right out the front door of the wing (not so at GF). The rooms are huge (two queens, pullout sofa, table, several chairs, lamps, huge dresser, closet is a bit akward to access in the middle, huge bathroom (double sink, shower tub, separate room for the toliet with a vanity area)). Balcony is non-existent (patio on first floor). You can walk right out to the pool, or the beach to watch the water parade.

Oh and if youre lucky enough, you can watch a shuttle launch from the CR too! We saw one back in '00. The decor may be lacking a bit (its not that bad), but there is something magical about the place! Youll love it, epecially if youve been dreaming to stay there since you were a little girl! Enjoy!

I stayed there for the first time in December and loved it. The room layout was nice - big and roomy. Loved the split bathroom.

We were in the tower with a Magic Kindgom view and it was fantastic!

I love the CR also! The monorail zooming through is true Disney Magic! I love the location - you are right in the heart of the magic. The wing rooms aren't as great as the tower, but still great. They are nice large rooms and depending on where you are, have great access to the pool.

We stayed at the WL and had dinner at CR...as we pulled up to CR, we thought about how much we missed staying at CR and felt it was much more premiere than staying at WL.

Good luck and have a great time - great choice!!!

We love the CR too!! Location, location, location!!! We really do prefer a tower room over the garden wing room just because of the view!!

I would like to lovingly correct alloyd1170. Walt unfortunely never got to see his dreams take shape in his "Florida Project". Walt passed away in 1966. He saw all these magnificant dreams on paper but never in the flesh. CR was a pet project for Walt. He loved the innovative idea of constructing the infrastructure then "sliding" the rooms in like dresser drawers. Sadly he never got to see this happen. But you can definately feel his love and spirit at the CR.

Janet2k.. you are one of the first I've ever heard say they love the pools at CR... why do you love them?

I am hoping to stay at CR this Aug. if I can get a decent rate. I've never stayed there, and even though some say they really don't like it, for some reason, maybe for all the reasons posted here, it appeals to me. Seems very Disney to me.

I'm enjoying reading this thread... pray I can get a good rate!

Mercy - if you are watching for codes, watch frequently! We didn't jump on codes when they were available right away and the CR garden wing rooms were all booked up with the code...since they are good buys - beware that they may get snatched up quickly!

Good luck!

The only thing I dislike about the Contemporary are the pools. The slides are fun if you're a kid, I guess, but neither of the two pools has a deep end. Annoying!

I didn't think any of the pools at Disney had a "deep" end. I thought the deepest was about 5 foot.

Trust me... I'm on these boards every day looking and waiting for codes!!! The anticipation is killing me!

Thanks for starting this thread! We're staying at CR in June. I'm getting more excited by the day!

Janet2k- I can't get your first link to work-could just be my computer.

The quiet pools at the deluxes all have deep ends: the Poly, YC/BC, Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge. Maybe the Contemporary's round pool by the beach (the second pool) has a deep end in the middle...

Thanks for all the replies! Especially thanks for the great pic links Janet2K! I can't wait! And I'll keep watching those codes, who knows, maybe we can swing a tower room after all!

We loved staying in the NGW last April! The walk to MK is great, and the main pool is nice---great view from the pool of the lake and boat shuttles!

Kindly request a first floor room (patio w/ loungers vs. no balcony above) and a view of the EWP. We were unbelievably lucky to score an amazing upgrade at check-in. We had FAXED a letter in advance requesting those two things, and were very pleasant to the check-in girl, but how we managed what we got I'll never know! We went from 2 standard rooms (at SoG prices) to a two-bedroom suite!

Consider the two requests I suggested, especially with the walk-out patio would be key!

I don't find it sterile at all...but yes, it is very clean. The theme is not at all lacking, it just isn't exotic. Great restaurants, great proximity to MK, LARGE rooms, views, amazing arcade, monorail! The only thing that I don't love is that the pool isn't as beautifully landscaped (I guess "themed") as the other deluxes. It's a great hotel that seems to get a bad rap, I don't know why. You made a terrific choice!:sunny:
