We're starting the CR on a convention, can we use the ddp?

No you can not add the dining plan.

You cannot get the DDP if you booked your room through the convention using a convention rate.

To get the DDP you have to book a package (room + tickets + DDP) through Disney.

The reason I ask is our kids are bringing friends with them and I was thinking this will give the parents an option to ensure the kids use the money they have for food and not other items. In a sense repaying for food.

Is there such a way to do this for the parents who are back home.

I thought we could dish out the money on a per day basis or the parents can have envelops with the date on it that we can give them each day?

Can you still get disney bucks or something like that?

You can't get the DDP on a room you booked through a convention. This is not a Magic Your Way package reservation. To get a dining plan you will need to book a package reservation yourself, which would result in losing any discount you'd be getting on the room by booking it through the convention.

Maybe you can suggest to the parents that they provide a Disney gift card for their children to spend on meals and souvenirs. The parents can give them a specific amount of money to spend if they put it on a gift card. The downside is that if the kid loses the gift card, they lose the money too. The adults could hold the gift cards, and write on each one with a sharpie so you know which gift card is for which child.
