Hi, I am new to this board, and I'm hoping to get some good "tips" for our planned trip to the Contemporary in December. My husband and I will be going with our 3 year old daughter.

Unfortunately, I am having a little trouble with the board's lingo! Can anyone tell me what AP refers to? How about RFP?

Also, in reading other posts it seems like we can request a specific room or area in the Contemporary before we check in. Is that the case? If so, how do I do that?

I would really appreciate any help in this area. I haven't been to Disney in over 15 years, so I'm sure there have been lots of changes since my last trip. Any tips or information would be very much appreciated!

Thanks so much!!

AP = Annual Pass (usually in reference to using a discount available to people who have an annual pass to wdw) (on the resort board).

RFP = Not a clue? ? Anyone else?

Yes, you can request an area or room or a section of rooms etc... BUT remember it is a request, no guarranteed. WDW does there best to try to comply with everyone, but sometime's you get lucky and other times not. Usually it helps to request to in your category, if you request the tower, you should have a tower room booked, otherwise it is a upgrade, complimentary or payed for? Mostly people request views, floors, near elevator, etc.... ;)

Enjoy the CR (contempary resort) ! Our favorite. We will also be there in december! Your neigbors, look for a large red ribbon on our tower room door!

MKY :D

Thanks for the quick reply!

We had a travel agent make our reservation at the CR, and I have to admit, I don't know what part of the hotel she booked us into! Guess I better look into that!

I'd be curious to know what everyone thinks of the different sections of the CR - preferences, dislikes, etc. Also, how do I go about making a specific request? Do travel agents do that?

Thanks again!
Patti

Hi,

When you want to request a specific room or area, most people tell you to inform the cast member making your initial reservation so it's noted on your confirmation slip and then fax a room request to the room assigner at the hotel 5 days before you arrive. Generally you should be very nice and unassuming with the room assigner since it's not a given that you'll get your request. If you've made arrangements through a travel agency you should ask them what part of the hotel they booked you in. There's the north garden wing, the south garden wing and the tower rooms. Both wings are 3 story buildings off to the sides of the tower. The tower is the tall 14 story A-frame unit that the monorail glides through. The tower is more expensive than the wings but I prefer to stay in the tower. Of course it's all a matter of personal opinion. I've heard others say they prefer the quiet tranquil setting of the wings. If you stay in the tower a lot of people ask for a Magic Kingdom view as high up as you can get. The Bay Lake side is very nice too but you don't have the Magic Kingdom view. There's nothing like lying in bed at night and watching the castle change colors.

I love the Contemporary. You'll find that people either love it or hate it. There never seems to be any middle ground. There's tons to do there and it's all in a compact area. Other hotels on Disney property are spread out and it's sometimes a long walk to get anywhere but not at the Contemporary. Especially if you stay in the tower. Many say that there's not a lot of theming there but it's all in how you look at it. I love it so much that I never want to stay in any other hotel. And I have tried a few of the other hotels but most of the time I just think about how much I miss the Contemporary and how I want to be back there.

As far as tips go, be sure to watch the Electric Water Pageant that comes around nightly on Bay Lake at 10:05pm, weather permitting. Your 3 year old daughter will absolutely love it. Also, look for the Mickey ears out back that light up at night. A lot of people stand inside the ears and have their picture taken. If you're up for a boat ride you can catch a launch in back of the hotel at the dock. It will take you to the Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness Campground and then back to the Contemporary. There's a walking path from the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom and it's generally faster to walk it than to ride the monorail since the monorail has to stop at the Ticket & Tranportation Center, the Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian before it gets to the Magic Kingdom. The path takes about 10 minutes and its very pleasant. On the flip side, the Contemporary is the first stop that the monorail makes after leaving the Magic Kingdom. The elevators in the hotel are very cool. Each elevator has a different Disney character announce your floor when you arrive. Last tip is to look for the 5 legged goat in the mural on the Grand Canyon Concourse. Ah, just thought of one more thing. While you're waiting for the monorail to arrive, ask the monorail attendant if your daughter can ride in the front car. If there's no one else waiting you, she, and the rest of your family can ride up front with the monorail operator.
Most of all, have fun and enjoy yourself. :p :p :p

We stayed at the CR when our dd was 2.5. It's a perfect resort for little ones! If you are booked in the Garden wing, ask for a north wing room where you can see the fireworks. We were on the MK side and had a perfect view from our room. Plus, it was so quiet. The bus stop, too, is just ourside the north wing.

If she likes the characters (some kids are afraid of them) you have to go to Chef Mickeys! We did breakfast & dinner. We didn't make any PS'ings until we were there & had no problems getting in. It's alot of fun! Brittany was 2.5 and she just loved them. She was so excited!!

Enjoy your stay!

Do you have to pay extra for a MK view in the tower?

If you have a tower room booked you do not have to pay extra for the MK view. You would either have a MK view or a view of the lake. Both are nice views.
We enjoy the MK view because our little one goes to bed early and with the balcony facing the MK you can sit and watch the fireworks in the evenings.

Sounds nice.

My DH wants to stay at the Contemporary because it looked so cool to him as a child. (We also like that type of decor.) My kids want to stay at the AKL. I want to stay at the YC. I'm willing to split 2 ways but not 3. However, our next Disney trip is to DLP in March, so I don't have to make a decision for a long time. I figure if our trip to WDW will be when it's warm, I'll make sure we're at YC; if not, I'll agree to the CR. (Of course, I'm writing this as if cost were no factor at all, which it will be.)
