CP to fulltime?

I was just wondering, how common or typical is it for a person to do multiple CPs, do a PI, and then get asked to be full time? My dream is to work for Disney full time and I was hoping to hear personal experiences/stories.

How likely is it for this to happen?

Thanks,

Carrielee

well.. you cant be in the college program for more than 1 year... so you cant really do multiple CP's and an PI... unless all of them are short programs and end within the year... most likely it will be a CP... then an PI and then fulltime...

Lots of people end up staying fulltime... most of the time in fulltime park roles... but some people luck up and bag a decent job after the PI's too

OOOh... and MOST people... not ALL but MOST... don't get just asked to do full-time you gotta go and apply yourself and let it be known to someone that you want it... otherwise they will just let you end your program and bounce...

squish86 is right about needing to apply for fulltime. They don't say "We like you so stay on fulltime." You have to do it yourself. Let them know and then apply.

However, saying you can't do multiple CPs is wrong. There are several people who have done more than two CPs. The only catch is that you can't do more than 2 in a row and by this I mean you can't do CP for more than a year consecutively. This means that if you for example did Spring 2010 then extended into Fall 2010 you can't do Spring 2011 but you can do Spring 2012 and you may be able to do Fall 2011. The poster Joanna(sorry I can't remember the rest of your screenname) has done several CPs. Some people do several CPs then go fulltime without having done a PI.

of course you can do multiple cps lol but the way the OP worded the question was saying multiple cps as in spring.. then fall... then PI and you cant do that... ive done two cps and going for a third...

Just remember that the availability of Full Time and Casual Regular positions are determined by the labour demands of each area, as well as the number of applicants, and where applicable, the Transfer/Promotion guidelines laid out in the Collective Bargaining Agreement covering a specific role. Particularly at the moment, there's not always guranteed to be a permanent position available after one completes their DI&P experience.

As far as I am aware, you can technically bounce between CPs at WDW and DLR without any limit to the amount of CPs you do, even if they are consecutive. As long as you are in school, you can apply. I worked with a girl who used this method three times in a row. The company allows you to do this because you lose your pay rate as you move from each location due to the difference in minimum wage laws, job locations, etc. And as each program ends, you are, on paper, leaving the company (even if your departure and arrival date from each place may be less than a week apart from each other.)

You will, however, lose your scheduling seniority. While I do not know how scheduling works in WDW, when I left the CP and became a CR (part time) at DLR, I lost ALL of my scheduling seniority. In the middle of the summer, I went from 50 hours a week, to 12 hours a week. This depends if you are with a union or not. My hire date and yearpin dates were not affected. I did not have any issues with transferring from the CP to a CR.

Following my PI (which followed a CP) I was asked to go full time.

However, my PI role was an office job and they were offering me a TA (temporary assignment). That means that once the money is gone for that position, I'm out the door. This was offered to me two months after all of the layoffs in 2009, so you can imagine my hesitation.

I declined the position and found a park job, which has security. 5 months later I was called by my PI office and told they had more openings. To be honest, while I greatly appreciate my PI experience, that department is not where I want to be when building a career with Disney. I did not take the role, but was very luckily to land another role shortly therefore in a position that was perfect for my career.

With that said, yes, they may ask you to go full time, but it may not be the best option for you so consider all the avenues.

Thanks so much for the information, everyone!!! I learn something new everyday. I was not aware that you could only do 1 program per calendar year. I'll do some more planning for that as to how to fit things in better.

Have any of you (aside from Joanna) personally become fulltime after doing a CP or PI program?

Thanks,

Carrielee

no no no... you can do more than 1 program per year... but you cant work past 1 calendar year... meaning... you can do spring... and then fall... but then you have to take a semester off before you can do another program...

Thanks for clarifying!

Random question for your Berlioz70 what was your PI if you don't mind me asking.

FT depends on availability. I was lucky and got FT in the location I wanted
