I don't quite understand the costuming. Do you take it home? Do you change at work? Do you wash it or do they? I've heard so many things! Can someone explain it? I'm in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for Fall 2010! princess:

You can do either.

You can get your costume pieces and change at home; or you can keep them at work and change there (depending on locker availability). You can turn them each week for cleaning and get new ones; or you can wash them yourself. Or you can do any combination of the above, it's your choice.

Until a few years ago, Cast Members had to get a new costume each shift and change at work. As such, those Cast Members who have been with the company for a while (as well as those who also work at or have worked for Universal Orlando, which still requires this) will do that. Those hired more recently will generally keep their costume pieces at home, change there, and wash their costumes each week for the convenience factor. However, it's a choice left up to individual Cast Members.

I do a mix of both. I keep at least one clean costume in my locker one and at home. But most of the time's I would change when I got to work. It really depends on where you work. DTD's costuming and changing areas are right next to eachother. Both MK and DTD costuming location is close to the Botique!!! :D

Like many things that are work-specific, it isn't important that you understand it now. All of that stuff will be explained during training.

Don't beat yourself over the head trying to comprehend this now.

While the info you rec'd is pretty good, with this particular costume, you might not be able to alunder it yourself. A firend of mine used to work f/t at the BBB at WOD, but I think she is a co-ordinator now.

I'll use myself as an example. the sales hostess costume I wear on the floor is made up of a blouse, which I launder myself, and a skirt, which says dry clean only. The stocker uniform is made up of a red polo and khaki pants, both of which i also launder myself. I guess the bottom line is what will you have access to when you are here and how can the costume be laundered. That pink & purple creation at BBB is not something I would put in my washer with my clothes - you will probably change it out and let costuming clean it!

Good luck in your program!

For the BBB you can take 5 skirts and shirts out at one time and 3 vests (if my memory serves me right).
I would suggest, if you're in MK at least, to keep an extra vest in your locker at all times. There may be things that come up that you'll have to change your vest for a new one during your shift (which you'll find out about during training so I won't go into detail) and it's a pain when you have to take the bus back out to costuming to switch it out right in the middle of a shift.
Personally, I used to keep my shirts in my locker on hangers and take them home as I wore them, so when I left for the day and there weren't any hanging, I knew it was time to do laundry (or if I didn't have the time, to go trade in for new ones).

I used to clean my costumes at the apartments all the time and they did fine since everything is a nice thick cotton, poly lining or the satin top. Just doing put them in with a bra or something with metal hooks that might hook onto the lace trims ^_^
