Does anybody have any suggestions on what a family of four should do in Cozumel?...The kids are 9 and 6...Would like to book an excursion on my own!:Pinkbounc

Rent a car yourself. You can use a national chain (Like Hertz and Avis) or use a local (I have used Lesspay twice, worked out great and under $40 for the day with insurance). Here are some links to help you search:

http://www.travelnotes.cc/cozumel/links/rentals.html

BTW: LessPay is one block from the pier at the Barracuda Hotel at:

http://www.islacozumel.net/services/lesspay/

Then explore on your own.

If you don't want the crowds, like great off-shore snorkeling try Dzul Ha (recommended by Cozumel Sally too). It's free (just buy some drinks / ice cream and the proprietor is happy). WARNING - you will not be able to apply sunscreen at this place - they want to protect their coral and other sea life. Apply sunscreen before arriving, or treat t-shirts with RIT Sunguard and snorkel in the T-shirts for sun protection.

You can check out other spots and some good links for the beaches are at the following:

If you want to relax at a hacienda with pool / food, check out: http://cozumelinsider.com/palmar/

Only $5 per day per person (day pass) - best deal in Cozumel

Finally,

The east side of the island is worth the drive. Very scenic vistas and some nice restaurants to try (fabulous seafood). On the cross-Island road is the San Gervaso ruins (not much to look at) but a few roadside vendors selling Aztec souvenirs. We get Mexican blankets (about $2 US).

Have fun!

Hubby and I went to Mr. Sanchos...grabbed a cab right up the dock at the cab stand. It would be a great place to take kids.

We spent three to 4 hours there, but, could have spent the whole day. The food is wonderful, staff is great. Beautiful beach, everything spotless, including bathrooms/changing area.

Then, we went back to town..did a little shopping and went to carlos and charlies for dinner..also a great place to eat. music, dancing..lots of fun. The kids would probably get a kick out of it. I hear it can get a little rowdie at times..but, it wasn't when we were there (September)...we didn't eat dinner on the ship..we ate around 7pm or so.

Have fun!

ps...you can check out all that mr sanchos has to offer at mrsanchos.com

we went there on the recommendation from another cruiser on this board..we were not disappointed, and we would definately go again.

Hi ...

SIL and family, my mom and my family - 9 of us - on the recommendation of my cousin's wife (who's from Cancun area) we did an excursion on our own.

We walked down to the ferry across to Playa del Carmen. Once there ask where the taxis are ... check prices ahead of time, but head out to Xcaret:

www.xcaretcancun.com

I don't remember the price - about $45/day but worth every penny. Easy to catch taxis back to Playa and then the ferry back to Cozumel. We then spent a couple hours cruising the shops in Cozumel, but it was easy to do, and realy, really worth it.

We loved Chankanaab park. It was a ten dollar taxi ride there (4 of us). Once there you can see tropical birds, sea lions, dolphins, rest on the beach, see replicas of Mayan Ruins (extensive) and snorkle. We also did the dolphin swim which we booked through shoretrips.com. We loved the day there and will go back again in a heartbeat!
