My DH, DD, and myself are looking for a nice laid back beach in both Cozumel and Jamaica. DD has some mobility difficulties so need to minimize walking in fact she and DH may not even get in water so need shade and relaxing. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!:beach:

Our last trip to Cozumel we went to Chankanaab national park. We were the second group through the gate and had a nice area on the beach with umbrella and chairs. They are all movable so you could get 3 chairs under an umbrella if you want. I believe it was $12 entry and we took a cab from the port. We snorkels and roamed around on our own....very relaxed and service (drinks!) on the beach of course.

Nachi Cocom in Cozumel is a great laid back beach! It is all inclusive and they limit the number of guests so it is never crowded. The food is good and the drinks are great!

You can google Nachi Cocom to get more details but you will see lots of people recommending them.

We went to Paradise Beach of couple of weeks ago. Nice place. Very laid back, and nice beach and pool area. Good drink menu. The pictures on their website are accurate. $2 per person admission, and $12 per person for access to the floating toys.

We loved both Nachi Coccom and Mr. Sanchos
Both are all inclusive and have both a pool and the beach

We are going back to Mr. Sanchos in 2 weeks

Us too! Loved the chairs in the pool. :thumbsup2

Just to add the cab ride was $15.00 each way (for a party of 4). And a word of warning, when we got off the ship we were approached by people trying to sell us their tours. One asked where we were headed and once we told him he came back with "its 45 minutes away, its very crowded, the cost is $30.00 per person to get in..." all this crazy stuff. I was totally second guessing myself and my research at this point and was ready to get back on the ship. :headache: As it turned out when we got to the bottom where the cabs are the sign right there said $15.00 for the cabs to Paradise Beach. We timed the ride back and that was 17 minutes. It was not the least bit crowded but did start to pick up a little around 2:00 PM. And as Greatfalls noted it was in fact $2.00 per person, $12.00 to use the slides. They do expect you to spend $10.00 per person on food/drink, which was no problem.

For us who didn't want to stay drinking all day and didn't want to snorkel and do all the extra stuff, this was probably the least expensive way to do a beach day. The all inclusive stuff wasn't for us.

This is a nice summary of Paradise Beach. We visited the beach during our Fantasy cruise this spring. I will add that they have a pool at Paradise Beach is very nice and very large. Our kids loved it. They also have free wifi on the beach and laptops with internet access for use at the bar. I thought it was nice touch.

CamColt, from another post, I think you and I were there on the same day, 8/7. I had read in advance about cab drivers trying to talk you out of where you wanted to go. I got lucky -- my cab driver mentioned Mr. Sanchos, I said not interested, and he didn't press it. My DW suggested that if the driver starts pushing, just respond "we're meeting other people." There's not much they can say. One more tip -- take the towels that DCL hands out at the pier. I assumed the beach club would rent towels, but I was wrong, and it was $22 to buy a beach towel.

Great advice people. There is no doubt that the Taxi drivers get some kind of kick back. We said "We want to go to Chankanaab." They said "Do you have a booked tour?" We said "No, we just love to go and that's where we want to go." "Would you like to go to this place?" "No, we want to go there." It went on and on before we finally said, "Look, we are going to find someone to drive us to CHankanaab." "Ok Ok" and then rate is established.

Another person I know said that a spanish-speaking couple got in a taxi with them and all of them spoke spanish and laughed and laughed. When the family got to Chankanaab, he asked the wife what they were saying (she speaks Spanish but she did not let on that she did.) She said that the taxi driver said that these rich American's would pay enough to cover all of their taxi fare, hahaha etc. He asked her why she didn't say anything and she said "We are in Mexico, are you nuts? I just wanted to get here in one piece..."

So... anyway we have taxied to Chankanaab twice and I would go back again in a minute. The food, beach, friendly fish, cute sea lion show, there is something for everyone. We always feel VERY VERY safe in the park as you have to pay admission to get in (so you won't have people selling you stuff like on the public beaches) and you don't have to pay for chairs or umbrellas either.

Just be mindful of the taxi drivers and stand your ground. They will try to dissuade you and if you don't know any better, who knows where they are driving you to...

I just told them what I wanted in Spanish. I figured I was in Mexico, I should talk to the people in their native language. I guess if people look like and act like a mark, folks will try to take advantage of them.

PS, good advice by a PP about bringing the DCL towels.

I like the information on this thread!! My DH and I are doing a 4 nt without the kiddos and will be going to Cozumel. We don't really want to book an excursion. Paradise beach looks really nice. I looked up Nochi Cocom and the website said it was already booked up, and we won't be there until Dec 29!!

Yep, that's the day we were there. And after that guy gave us all that wrong info (and other tried to get us on their tours), that is exactly what DS said "We should start telling them we are meeting people there." ;)

Just one note of information, they did not have clean towels at the pier at Cozumel, or at least not when we got off. We thought they would and got off the ship to find out they didn't. We even asked a CM. DH had run back on the ship and up to the pool deck to get some. We got them at the port at CC, but not at Cozumel.

My kids are not the type to "relax" at the beach. They want to play, etc... Which would you recommend for them?

I've never been to Mr. Sanchos but Nachi is definitely a relax at the beach kind of day, maybe not so great for them.

Thanks so much for your input!!
:beach: me, I'm all about lying on the beach but the kids not so much!
