Cozumel and cash

Can I pay taxi's with cash? Since it should be less than $20, prefer not to use my credit card unless necessary. Everything we plan to do should cost less than $100. Will have my card on me if needed and a bit extra cash if needed. Just making sure I can pay with cash. Thanks.

When we went the taxi took US dollars, no issues. We went to Paradise Beach for $10 each way

Pick up the taxi across the street behind the shopping center. They had the prices for local attractions on a board at the taxi stand and Paradise beach should be listed. I believe they took US dollars at Paradise Beach as well. I did have to give them an ID to hold for rentals, so you might want to bring something other then your passport for them to hold on to.

I was under the impression that taxis only took cash in Cozumel. if you are using your card, let your CC know you're going to Cozumel. One of our cards declined our transaction because they said automatically decline charges from Mexico unless it is noted that you are traveling to Mexico. we told them when we were traveling precruise in Miami but didn't specifically say Mexico

We did not go anywhere in Cozumel. Just shopped. We used US dollars. No problems

They do take US dollars at Paradise Beach too. As an alternative to handing over your ID for the rentals, we were able to hand them a $20. At the end of the day when we turned everything back in they gave us back the $20.

Yep, we've also used cash exclusively when in port, Cozumel included, and it's never been a problem!!
