Since this is a budget forum, I thought some might like to know about the changes to the Chick-Fil-A calendar for 2013. Please no comments on whether or not you chose to eat there for whatever reasons you hold dear please.

The new calendar will not have coupons - instead a card of sorts with the monthly offers preloaded. One offer per month as in the past, but once the offer is gone, it is gone. According to their FAQ, you cannot substitute the offers' value against another product.

This is all fair, and the way it is advertised, but I will miss being able to use my expired coupons, and putting the value of the feature item (say a sandwich) toward something I prefer (say nuggets). That was a nice albeit undeserved bonus I enjoyed.

Still a great value at $6 - and yes, I will probably buy one, but just wanted to give a heads up to those who have used the coupons in the past with the generous flexibility.

I bought one and will see how it goes, but the fact that you now have to activate the card online just screams data mining to me. I'm not jazzed about giving yet more information to yet another company. I didn't know about the "activation" until after I bought it. I thought you could just use the card anonymously.

I also bought one as a gift for my elderly parents (I've always gotten them one) and I'm going to have to give them a tutorial on registration and use, I expect.

Never mind - must acitvate, but you may call in, so that you don't have to provide email address.

Just stinks.

What I see is this:

Why do I have to activate my promotional card?

Just as when a new credit or debit card arrives in the mail, the 2013 Calendar promotional card must be activated prior to use. As well as being required for offer redemption, activation has several benefits:

If your online-activated promotional card is ever lost or stolen, we can (and will gladly!) replace it. Click here for details regarding the process for replacing lost or stolen cards.
You can easily track which offer is currently on your promotional card, as well as view past history of where and when previous offers were redeemed.
You'll have the opportunity to sign up to receive:
Email reminders to redeem your promotional card offer each month.
Exclusive insider information and details on upcoming events and promotions.

Plus, this new use of technology might even give us the opportunity to serve up a surprise or two.

Please note that loss/theft replacement, reminder functionality, offer inquires and other enhancements cannot be accommodated for phone-activated cards.

And this:

I don't want to activate my promotional card. Can't I just tear off the bottom of each Calendar page and bring it in instead?

What's printed at the bottom of each Calendar page is not a coupon and cannot be redeemed at a Chick-fil-A Restaurant for any product. The only way to redeem 2013 Calendar offers is to activate the included promotional card. If you do not have internet access or need assistance activating your promotional card, please call 1-855-285-2321.

So, it seems to me that you must activate it.

Yeah, I saw that you could call in, but if you do the call in thing, they won't replace a lost or stolen card. Only the online reg. gets that benefit. So you run a risk if you don't give them the info. they want.
