I'm beginning to worry seeing how very easy it is to test positive for covid! My son just tested positive in Ontario, was supposed to fly home to Alberta Jan 7, but tested positive Jan 5 after being told he may have been exposed.... YEP it came back positive! He had to stay an additional 10 days in Toronto and just got back home last week. So.... if this happens with 4 of us trying to fly to the USA for our trip, in October, we are going to be out a lot of money (around 30K) because travel insurance sees Covid as a known event and not something you can cancel over! I am so worried one of us could test positive, and we need to fly to the USA as we live in AB and can't drive. Also we have a cruise we are booked to board Oct 9. We fly Oct 5, spend 3 days (6-9) in WDW, then head to Port Canaveral to cruise. What's the safest way do you think to avoid possible positives and not being fit to fly?? I am beginning to wonder if we should all test 2 weeks before we are supposed to fly. If any of us is positive at least we have time to isolate then get notes if need be?? The USA requires a rapid antigen test I think 48 hours?? before flying, so would then need to take another test I think, hopefully we can all be negative. I will be devastated if this trip gets ruined over test results! it's 3 years in the rescheduling!
What is the best way to go about this to ensure we can all get on that plane on October 5??

Things will 100% change by October. It constantly changes. Current state, you need negative Antigen 1 day before your flight. We did Rapid Test 4 days before - to allow time to cancel if needed; then official test (via Switch Health) today. Another group we are travelling with did it 15 days before the trip - one was positive, within 3 days all were positive. So, they got copies of their PCR tests and letters from Physician to indicate recovery.

We are planning a trip for October as well. I'm hoping we are in a better place by then and testing requirements will have changed for the better. COVID spread is completely different now than it was in October and it's so easy to catch it right now. I plan to live like a hermit a week or so before we leave LOL

There are a few insurances companies that cover at least the medical part for COVID. I don’t think a cancellation insurance is possible at the moment but currently, most cruise lines have a policy stating that you can move your dates if you get a positive test and can’t get on board.

FYI I believe some cruise lines will not accept a « recovery letter » if you still test positive. It’s important to know if they do (in advance).

I hope by October these restrictions aren’t still in full force!!!

Im going to DLR in march and found an insurance through Manulife that covers covid related illness and will pay your hotel/food costs if you test positive and have to isolate in the US. This is what convinced me to finally rebook my cancelled trip from Sept 2020.

I bought this coverage for an upcoming trip to Cuba too. It's not expensive but I'm still praying it won't come into play.
