NOTE: Title changed on 9/3/20 to reflect a broader discussion.

The U.S. just approved a FIFTEEN minute test made by Abbott Labs. They expect to have millions of them available by October. A medical professional is required to give you the nasal swab, but then you just wait fifteen minutes and the results pop up oy n your smart phone. And they're highly accurate.

So...imagine a Disney park entrance with this instead of a temp check, you get this- 100% Covid free park, anyone who is positive goes back to quarantine at their resort.

They plan on having fifty million within two months. They will be available.

Can you imigine the thousands of people standing in a crowed at rope drop waiting for their 15 minutes to be up? It would be total chaos.

It’s great that there is an approved 15 minute test but I don’t think it would work for the parks.

You already have to wait for security and temp check now.

Fifty million is a drop in the bucket. Are people tested before boarding DME? Before checking into a resort? Before each park?

I'd say have it in every airport and then at the entrances to the parks. And they're not stopping at fifty million- they're going to keep producing them. And other companies will now get approval quickly, as there are several other similar products waiting in the queue.

It won't happen at the parks
First it's a nasal swab, those are uncomfortable, imagine the thousands of kids crying before they get into the parks
Plus
It's still time consuming and there's no space for thousands of people waiting to get the test done and then waiting for the results.

To me the Saliva test is bigger. Not a nasal swab, think it's 20 minutes.

But either way, i don't see any testing happening in the parks. There just no way to do it

I have alluded to some things in the rumors boards about massive medical advancements coming down the pipeline (and not even about vaccines), and we're starting to see it.

Yeah, no space, also they would need to administer the test to cm everyday for it to be a viable solution

I know it sounds like we're all coming down on it. Don't get me wrong, it's great news and I'm sure many will take advantage of this test it's just not practical for the parks operations

ya, this is bigger for society as a whole, but not for something like parks

Now, what this could do is allow people to travel again and feel safer as these types of test become more and more available. These are the beginning steps to getting back to a normalcy

but think about what it opens up- shows, evening entertainment, bigger capacity, and peace of mind.

I think you run into privacy issues when you start requiring medical testing. Proof of immunization in order to travel? That’s one thing. Requiring individuals to submit to invasive medical tests would turn a lot of people off. If you think the anti-mask group is vocal about staying home, imagine an even larger group that objects to having a swab jammed up their nose every time they wish to enter a park. I’m not sure that Disney wants to head in that direction.

Not to mention that Disney would be required to report all positive cases to public health. It’s not just a matter of sending the infected individual back to their hotel room or home to quarantine or convalesce.

You’re there as a guest. Disney’s guest. Theu can absolutely do this if they choose.
There are laws which govern the privacy of medical tests. And huge fines for violations. For. Every. Individual. Violation.

I don’t think it’s something Disney wants to touch. That’s why the testing center for CMs that is being run onsite is not being conducted by Disney and why Disney employees are not doing the temperature checks.

Again, operationally it's just not doable, it would have to be done everyday like they're doing with the nba players, that won't happen for the cm, Disney employs tens of thousands

who says its highly accurate?
We've seen rapid tests fail.
We've seen tests that take days for results fail.
Is Disney going to hire a bunch of medical professionals now?
Are people willing to have the test done?
Will there be enough tests?
How much will the tests cost Disney who will then pass along the price to guests?
Its not a game changer because its unlikely to happen.

The testing being done is close to Disney property but not on Disney property and cm are doing temp checks
