Covid Comeback?

I'm definitely getting my booster as well as my flu shot this Fall. I think I might hold off a little since they start to become less effective after a few months....and we're flying out to WDW in January. I can't decide what the best timing might be though.

I thought they were doing a combo flu/covid shot this fall?

Ooh...maybe? I haven't really researched it yet. I can't decide if I'd like that or not. Last year my husband got both on the same day and regretted it because he felt pretty crappy the next day. I spaced mine out a week or two.

The last couple of Covid shots I had I didn't have any ill effects that I can remember. It's the flu shot that knocks me for a loop for a day or so. I'm going to get both together. I figure if the Covid shot *and* the flu shot both make me feel ill I'd rather be ill for one day than ill two times if I get them separately.

I always hold off on my flu shot until late October/early November. My son's pulmonogist said that they do tend to wane over time and a lot of people who get them early have no protection in Feb/March. That seems to be the worst time for flu in my area.

The COVID boosters, while hard to find data, tend to be most effective for about 4 weeks after the shot. So if I were going in January, I'd get the COVID booster around 3 weeks before the trip.

Why would anyone even think of judging someone who wears a mask? I got the latest strain in July. It was my 4th time but this time it was much worse. I was out of work for a month. I was on Prednisone, two kinds of inhalers and ran a high fever. I've never had a problem with my lungs but it was incredibly scary not being able to breathe at times. I went for a check-up yesterday(I feel fine now) and this was at a major medical center in DC and they wouldn't let me in without a mask. The doctor said that Covid numbers were so high that they have gone back to masking. People on the boards are saying it's just like the flu. No big deal. That is certainly not the case for a good number of people. I applaud people who want to take precautions. What on earth could be the downside to wearing a mask if that is what a person feels comfortable doing or in fact must do?

I don't understand it either. I don't think anything negative when I see someone wearing a mask. Maybe they are sick and wanting to protect others. Maybe they are immunocompromised or have someone in their family that is. Or maybe they just want to avoid getting sick. None of my business. They are not bothering me by wearing one.

I'm always worried about wearing a mask places and getting judged. For example, I didn't wear one at the car dealership because I was worried if the salesman was an anti-masker, he would make things difficult for us or something.

I'm taking my kid to the orthodontist for a consultation today and I really want to wear my mask but again, if the person we are seeing is an anti-masker, I worry they might treat my son differently. (Though, I probably will still wear my mask because of all the open mouths...eww.)

I can't even imagine having to worry about that where I live. Not that we are like full-on into masking, we're not. But we seem to be live and let live and it wouldn't even hit my radar about a doctor/dentist/car dealership even caring. Maybe they would but I don't think that's the mentality here.

Now, as I relayed before, my parents got all sorts of comments about it when they were in Florida (The Villages area).

A lot of people that live in the Villages are miserable and want to spread their misery to others, so I wouldn't take it personally.

Source: have family who own a house there and have visited multiple times.

So no one seemed to glare at me or anything at the orthodontist, so that's a plus.

But the juxtaposition of me, wearing my mask in the waiting area, and the lady near me eating a snack and licking her fingers was funny to me.

I know that it used to be kind of a big deal to stay with either Pfizer or Moderna, depending on what you had before. Is it still like that? And what about this new one our local HEB is pushing, I can't remember the name but it starts with an "S" and supposedly it's just like Moderna. Anyone heard of it?

I don't think so. I had 4 Moderna and my last dose was Pfizer and when I asked about it, the pharmacist said it was fine. This was last year so I guess it was fine because nothing happened lol

I made an appointment for a new Covid dose in October and I have no idea what they have (CVS).

There was some information out there that you got better coverage if you mixed the vaccines up a bit so I alternated between Pfizer and Moderna. Right now I'm only seeing 3 vaccines available: Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax.

Got my Covid booster today, flu shot last week so I’m set for my WDW trip next week. At 72, I want whatever protection I can get. Will be packing boatloads of sanitizer. I live in an area of NJ that is knee deep in 55+ communities and some folks here are wearing masks. It’s a judgment free area, thank goodness. I respect whatever choice a person makes for their own well being. Can’t imagine why anyone would feel differently quite honestly!

We just came home from Disney and brought the unwanted souvenir of Covid with us. From the hotel, parks or plane…doesn’t matter where it came from. We used Purell faithfully throughout the day. We wiped down our plane seat area with lysol wipes. It still got us.

It’s not horrible, but it sucks.

My husband has covid now. So far I’m negative. We haven’t been anywhere in over a week other than work. (Not even groceries or take out- just random luck there I guess.) And he’s a teacher, so… pretty likely he picked it up at school.
