And that is diagnosed cases. India is definitely in trouble now and this is coming from an NYer so they will need to take some precautions.

My husband and I now both have appointments for May 8th!! I'm going to keep us on the waitlists though in case something closer to home/sooner comes up. But yay!

You might want to look around at some of the small pharmacies as known several people who have had luck there. I keep having an ad pop up on FB from Beyond Medical in Cloverdale and it says it accepts walk in. Maybe give them a call . Not sure where you are. My husband had his last week at the Rexall in Cloverdale. He put his name on the list and was emailed 2 days later with an appointment the next morning. I am an RN so I had mine ( Phizer) last month

And Boom....about half an hour ago I got an email from Costco Langley that they have a bunch of appts for this Sunday! So now I've booked both of us in there!!! Except the appt still says "waitlist" and that makes me nervous so until we actually have shots in arms this Sunday morning I won't cancel our April 26/May 1st appts. Man, it's like the Hunger Games! haha

Are you truly that fearful of the virus? It’s a pretty minimal illness for the majority of people and hard to spread outdoors in fresh air and sunlight.

I am. Especially these variants which are known to spread even outdoors if masking and social distancing are not maintained. My mother is currently in hospital with one of the variants. Six days on a ventilator, 10 days in icu. Who knows how long in hospital and rehab? Yes, I’m that fearful of these variants.

How devastating. Hospitals with no oxygen available. People left to their own accord. It is hard to watch. I can't imagine.

We are all so lucky.

Someone close to me, that might not get vaccinated, sent me a video where this doctor was hyping up that many in the world know that a cheap drug will stop Covid deaths and actually said, "India has even gone back to a completely normal life" because of it (I have people in my life from India so I knew it wasn't true - but then again it wasn't difficult to figure out)

And then of course went on about how most medical professionals refuse to get the vaccine, as they know not to roll the dice on it blah blah blah.
Makes me absolutely livid.

Oh I’m so sorry to read that. I hope she recovers faster than expected with minimal rehab needed.

I certainly agree with your post but the bolded brings up a question that has been heavy on my mind: Over the past year have there been any real advancements in the treatment of Covid? Since the whole chloroquine debacle I've really heard very little about research into drugs or other therapies besides intubation. For all our international posters, is there anything you're aware of?

I dont know the drugs or specific treatments. A few weeks ago I saw a report that at the beginning of the crisis the average IC stay here in NL for someone with Covid was 21 days, and that was brought back to 6 days. So they did figure out some things

I don't know specifics Annette, but like Karin has noted they have made advancements as many have stated that they are putting fewer and fewer onto ventilators, and shorter hospital stays. And of course recognizing that oxygen saturation levels are a huge marker of what is coming down the track, when a patient seems like they are doing relatively okay.

The doctor on the tape I was referencing was calling Ivermectin (spelling) the cure that they are keeping hidden from us, because it doesn't make anyone money. Hailing India as a country that uses it extensively already and that was why they were completely back to regular life. Sigh.

I immediately brought up a case study on Ivermectin where it was concluded that the placebo given to some did almost as well as the patients on Ivermectin.

Also one of the vaccine manufacturers??? (don't quote me, I am far too lazy to check) has Ivermectin in their arsenal. So then the argument is why wouldn't they make their millions if it was the heaven sent answer to it all.

People aged 63 can register on Saturday 24 April
People aged 62 can register on Sunday 25 April

Its all being done through a central database. The website is set up to unlock the different birth years at midnight, so thats why its so rigid.

From what I'm seeing yes, its being well publicized. They are using social media as well as the traditional media like radio and TV. From my moms social circle and the neighbours, everyone is registering on their allocated day. Most people are using the website but some of my neighbours registered by phone.

We had a very slow start but things seem to moving a lot faster now. It will be interesting to see as more age groups open up how far from registration day the first appointments will be. My mom registered on a Friday and had her first dose on the following Wednesday, so less than 7 days.

From what I have been reading, most , if not all EU countries have a central database, and the plan is for all the databases to join together for the EU vaccine travel passport. My understanding is that it will be like the system USA Homelands uses for ESTA, that when you check in for a flight or ferry etc that the system will recognize if you have been vaccinated or not.

So many Canadians cried racism when the USA suspended flights from China. Wonder if those same will this time.
