I did it, I have left Sony behind and become a Kindle owner. Well technically I will be one when it gets here on Monday :woohoo:
I was looking through the covers at Amazon and found some really nice ones, with very high price tags though. I don't want to spend a fortune but I would like something durable that will protect the Kindle when its in my bag. I know there are a ton of Kindle owners here so I was hoping you guys could recommend one that you like. TIA :)

Have you been over to kindleboardsdotcom? They are an amazing community - but beware, I have found several things I've had to buy because of their recommendations!!

They have a thread for free books and bargain books (its in the forum Book Bazaar!) (Its from Amazon, so no worries)

I think I read in their tips and tricks or maybe the accessory thread about different covers - one I found particularly industrious was a homemade cover made from bubble wrap envelope!

I of course fell in love with the very expensive leather Oberon cover (a whole thread devoted to the different colors and covers!) but I love the smell and feel of the leather! I had to buy the Fossil purse because it fits the kindle perfectly in the front flap!!

Then the "not quite kindle" forum convinced me to buy different makeup!! so be careful!

(Also - when they first came out the Amazon lighted covers caused the Kindle to short out - so dont buy a lighted cover! Amazon tho did replace those covers for free! it was the hooks that went into the side of the kindle - my cover has flaps - also on kindleboards there are Etsy sellers that have some great homemade covers!)

I bought one on Ebay and I have the Vera Bradley which is pretty, but I don't think it gives it asmuch protection.

I have a M-edge Trip jacket. I like how the bungee keeps it securely closed and I can fold the top cover back and secure it with the bungee this way too. It makes a nice 'pocket' to put my hand in when I'm reading one-handed. I had an Oberon for my K2 and while I loved it, the M-edge is a bit less bulky. I actually bought it until I found something I liked better and have been very happy with it.

Wow, there is alot of info there, and people sure do love their Kindles  Thanks for mentioning it.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, it looks like I have alot of options, it will just take some time to check them all.

Even if you go to Target, they have some ones there made just for the Kindle.

I love mine, it's great to have a library that is so small.

The biggest thing I love about it is I can lay on my side and read, and I don't have to hold anything open.

I got a leather one from Target, who now sells the Kindle. It's beautiful and very sturdy.

I have to share!

can you see the kindle oberon cover peeking out?

But as others said there are a lot of choices, dd has a kindle also, and she loves taking it out and sitting on the couch reading -

I love my kindle -

The Oberon covers are beautiful, I saw a couple on the site that I love but right now they are more than I want to spend. I'll remember them though, when dh asks what I want for my birthday ;)

Actually... it was the cover WITHOUT a light that caused some to short.

I got this one from Amazon. It was only $15.99 and although it's not real leather, the cover looks nice enough and is nice and soft. I also liked that it didn't attach to the Kindle like some do because I was nervous it might crack the kindle. This one has small holders in each corner and it doesn't interfere with the controls.

The Oberon covers are gorgeous and I may get one someday but for now this one works for me. :thumbsup2

I initially went with the leather Kindle branded one from Amazon with the built in light. I really like the cover itself and convenience of having the book light built in but there are a couple drawbacks. The light uses the Kindle's battery, which if you read a lot in bed like I do, will wear down the battery a lot quicker. Also, the light shines from the corner and doesn't evenly light up all parts of the screen. I exchanged the Amazon one for the M-edge canvas cover and bought the LED light made for it. Functionally it's better, aesthetically I don't like it as much. Neither option was that cheap, though. It's kind of crazy how much they charge for a little leather and cloth.

I've been really happy with the Kindle ligted cover, but our usage pattern is different. If I read in bed I usually have the bedside lamp on - it's just me so no need to worry about keeping someone else awake.

The few times I've been somewhere and needed a light for my Kindle, it's worked so well that I've been happy to have it and perfectly OK with the (to me very slight) difference in the way the screen is lit by the included light.

I suppose if I were reading in bed for an extended period I might be a little more concerned about the uneven quality of the light, but honestly it does the job pretty well as far as I'm concerned.

And yes, as the PP said, it was the NON - lighted cover people were having trouble with, not the lighted one.

I have the same jacket for mine and I love it!

It wasn't super expensive either...

I like holding my kindle alone, so I got this awesome timbuk2 cover:
http://www.amazon.com/Timbuk2-Quilted-Envelope-Display-Generation/dp/B003U4VIWW/ref=pd_rhf_p_img_2

It's padded really well and holds the kindle securely inside. When we travel, I put the kindle in this and know that it's safe.

Even though I love the Timbuk2, I just ordered the Amazon lighted cover and I can't wait to get it. My friend was using hers and I thought it would be a good investment for things like airplane reading or reading at a pool while the kids swim at night....I normally use my nightstand lamp when I read in bed, but I'm going to try out this cover and see if I like it.
