Cove Cafe is supposed to be adults only...

Although I "generally" think people should follow the rules I have two comments:

1. I have been on 11 DCL cruises and have no interest in the adult only areas so I never bother going. Adults are typically no fun and often a source of aggravation. Adults can usually suck the fun out of just about anything.

2. People put waaaaay to much importance into a cup of coffee, but then again we are in the midst of the "StarSucks" generation.

Not all adults, just the negative ones :)

Are there signs that mark "adult areas"? I have never been on a Disney cruise only Carnival. As of my last cruise, 2012, I have never seen a sign informing cruisers. If not for the different cruise boards I would have never known there were adult areas. We cruise in Jan 2015 I don't want to tick anyone off but I also don't want to be so worried about if an area is restricted or not. TIA

Someone in this post informed me that it's clearly marked and not in fine print, but it does seem like fine print to me and easily glazed over or missed.

I am also a very laid back person. Most things don't bother me but bringing kids in an adult only location is wrong. Having that view does not make me or anyone else uptight. Curious if there is a "line" and what rule needed to be broken that crossed that line before people wouldn't be considered "uptight". Would people be considered "uptight" if they were upset because someone saved seats in the theatre or at the pool when they weren't supposed to or if they cut in front of someone in line. Is that OK or should everyone just be like "fine, whatever".

Rules are in place for a reason.

MJ

To answer your question - no I don't care if people save seats for their family and friends in the theater, no I don't care if people save seats by the pool, so basically I am on vacation and to me these are the small I am certainly not going to get upset by. On a Disney Ship there is only one that that makes me uptight - that would be Shutters - other than that I have not been upset about anything.

It is in some places, but it is NOT fine print in the DCL brochures or DVDs and on the DCL website, where it is CLEARLY stressed which are ADULT only areas. As for the small print at the door of the Cove, that should be all that is necessary since before you ever round the corner to get to it there is a larger sign stating that area is for adults only.

The bottom line is that there will always be those who respect and abide by rules and policies (out of respect for others, even if it inconveniences themselves), those who blatantly and deliberately defy them and are always seeking excuses for doing so (If there is no armed security, does that mean you can do as you like?), and a small number of people who are naive enough about the ship and cruise they are on (didn't bother to read the Personal Navigator OR the signs and were oblivious to DCL's extensive marketing of their "adult only" areas) who just "accidentally" bring kids to the adult areas. Again, I'm not referring to a walk-by to get to your cabin, etc.

This topic has been beat to death and I'm sure no one has changed their "opinion" by reading it. I'm done. :tiptoe:

lol, right, but someone booked this cruise for us, we didn't read any brochures or see a DVD or go on the website. A family member told us "I booked a Disney Cruise" so anything I know, I learned here, and my husband is basically just going to show up. I will be sure to tell him everything I can but I hope I don't leave anything out for the vacation police to bust him on. I would hope someone would politely inform us if we miss any posted rules instead of stewing about it and complaining about us on a message board later.
As I always tell my 5 year old when she thinks it's her place to tattle on everyone else, mind yourself and worry about your own actions. This debate is less about "following the rules vs. Disney Cruise Anarchy" and more about "paying too much attention to what everyone around me is doing vs. minding my own business".

The adult areas are also identified as such in the Navigator you get every day:

right, I get it, its posted everywhere and everyone should read everything before going somewhere on the ship. We will try to do our homework. As I stated before, I just try to give people the benefit of the doubt instead of branding them as a rule-breaking buttmunch. I see that not everyone is like that, and it's cool.

Sorry, I seem to touched a nerve here. Your previous post sounded like you were asking "how do we know where these locations are?" because you yourself had done no research in planning the cruise. I was just trying to help. :goodvibes

I like branding everyone else a buttmunch anyway, even if they do follow the rules, just because it's really funny. :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

I saw this thread when the OP first posted it. I knew it would be a good one. I have not been disappointed. :coffee:

Just off the Fantasy yesterday (first time on DCL) and have to say that the kids and the zero enforcement of any kind of rules (outside of major safety issues) was a HUGE turn off.

We seemed to run into scores of people who felt like their child's enjoyment of any particular moment was paramount to anyone else's enjoyment. I didn't care for that aspect of the Disney experience AT ALL.

i think thats a little harsh. i don't pay attention to what every around me is doing until it interferes with my 'rule following' enjoyment. i should not be named called because i expect that others will behave appropriately.

just by posting this it shows you do not follow what you tell your 5 year old, you would not have posted that if you did. :confused3

jmo.

I really hope this is the exception rather than the expectation....I know rules will be broken here and there but I hope not enough that it ruins others enjoyment.

I have a BIL that loves to break rules. He's over 18 so he wouldn't be able to get into too much trouble on a DCL cruise.

I have tried to make sure his children know that breaking rules is not a good idea. I try not to say bad things about their dad, but point out that because someone didn't follow the rules about where they can smoke, I had to go to the hospital. Hopefully they will make the connection when it comes to other rules.

There will always be people who think the rules don't apply to them unless someone says something. Because getting a drink in an area that is for guests 18 and over some people probably think what's the big deal if I go in with a kid. They haven't figured out that they are teaching their child that rules don't need to be followed. It just keeps the cycle of rule breakers!

I have only ever broken one rule (staying with an adult) that I can recall, and I still would do the same thing again.

So sad to hear that. They were really good when we were on the fantasy but we take January and February cruises so much different crowd than summer cruises.
