Cove Cafe is supposed to be adults only...

This reminds me of grocery shopping. There is an express lane for people with 12 or FEWER items. I've NEVER seen a cashier working that lane turn away a customer with way more than 12 items. I'm sure they've been told that the customer is always right, and I imagine that unless it's a legal thing (underage drinking) or a safety thing, that a lot of CMs just don't feel comfortable telling a guest to move along.

Sometimes bored cashiers invite those with full carts into their lanes! Then people line up behind the full cart person and think bad things about them. When the person had been in the correct line and was called over. (It's happened to me too often. I won't go anymore. The assumptions that I caused the situation aren't worth it. )

Doesn't have much to do with the thread, but maybe someone can find a link.

At the end of the day, we're all responsible for our own behavior. We can do what we will to set a good example and abide by the rules DCL has made (as well as "Wheaton's Law", which boils down to, "don't be a ****.") It's a simple fact: on most cruises, there's "that person" who believes the rules don't apply because they spent sooooo much money and it's a family cruise and how dare you impune them and mind your own business!
It's also a simple fact that all of us have it within ourselves not to be "that person". In fact, I actively try not to be "that person", and if I catch myself going there, I try to apologize and make it right.

:thumbsup2

Whenever my DD asks me why some parents let their kids break the rules, I remind her of our saying: "If you can't serve as a good example, then you'll just have to serve as an example of what not to do."
We all manage to be that example for someone else's kids at some point - try as we might.
But the point is to try to be the former, is it not?

In the end, every person on the ship has paid a lot of money for the experience. None of us should feel more "entitled" than any other on board... but there are always going to be those people who believe the rules don't apply to them because they don't want them to. Which is hopefully very few on whichever cruise the rest of us are on.

:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

I am sorry this happened. Like you, I would feel VERY annoyed if a Parent walked into a place with kids where they should not be, order, then get served before my child and then get glared at by that parent. UGH. Unacceptable and rude on every level.

:offtopic: At least with Disney cruises there aren't that many intoxicated adults. I hear that the other cruise lines are bad for that. I don't want to be around someone or a group of drunks.

After 23 cruises ( DCL,RCCL,CCL) I can tell you there are just as many drunks on Disney as with Carnival and RCCL.

I think just for fun on my next cruise I'll take my 3 year old to get a milk shake in Cove Cafe now.

Watch all the dirty looks and just laugh at the ppl in grumpy moods.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: I just read this and can't stop laughing :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: what an incredibly sad and pathetic thing to say :rotfl2::rotfl2: I didn't think an 'adult' who enjoys a Disney Cruise would ever be this simpleminded....:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Maybe I'm misreading things a bit, but sometimes I think there should be punctuation or an emoticon for sarcasm (internally, we use the sarcasm flag: |>). I sincerely don't think people here would seriously bring a 3-year-old into an adult area just to make a point. Joke about it, yes. Actually do it? No.

Just because somebody said it on the Internet doesn't mean they're serious about it.

What a hot button issue in reading through all the replies.

I am onside with the rule is there not to inconvenience people but for the enjoyment of the area as intended. I have walked through the area to get to the pool deck with my kids (straight through) and nobody should complain of such with Disney placing the elevators where they are, but I'd never assume I could bring my kids into the adult only area for my convenience.

There will always be the ignorant that believe rules do not apply to them or they can push or bend the rules and unfortunately this segment of society appear to be growing.

Let more people assume they can ignorantly break the rules...this will only tip the scales in Disney having to clamp down on those that do. One person doing on occasion...little repercussion. Imagine a line of adults with kids in tow waiting to get their fix. Disney would then have to address or admit their adult only area does not mean adult only.

I must wonder if it's policy that the CM isn't allowed to say anything until someone complains? After the family left, I would have gone up and politely asked why the kids were allowed in the kid-free area. If it's some stupid policy they have to follow, then complain to someone "higher up". Telling someone off will probably just set them off on a tantrum.:crazy2:

I have to agree with this, people think the rules don't apply to them. I used to go to WDW and not have any problems. Now I end up with asthma attacks every time I go. I was taken by ambulance from DCA because someone decided they were going to smoke by the lockers, which is not a smoking area. By the time I saw him and turned around, I was already coughing. After using my inhalers, I still was having trouble breathing. Sad thing is he probably never knew what he had done to me. Since I'm so allergic even trying to talk near a smoker will cause an asthma attack.

What I noticed is the CM's don't do anything unless someone complains. There were people on a bench smoking right outside a main walkway and nobody said a thing to them. I had to run past them on the farthest side from them so I didn't have an asthma attack.

While it is annoying that children are in an adult area, it could be worse. You aren't going to have to go to the hospital. Maybe if everyone else would step up and say something to the offending person they would get the message. I know for me and smokers, that's the only way they might learn. Since I can't talk, I'm holding my breath and trying to escape from the smoke.

Those are just bad CMs then. The only time managemebt has specifically told me to ignore smokers is during food and wine weekends. Heck even then they said not to ignore it but to pick our battles. That was only after a month of having CMs spit on, verbally abused, and in one case physicallt abused for telling smokers to put it out and go to a smoking section.

Really the problem isn't CM most of the time it is guests who have been so nasty ot makes people fearful of their jobs and lives. I could spend days telling you all the nasty things I've been called or the times I've been threatened with physical violence for trying to enforce the rules.

i think we should just keep this thread going till it gets long enough to make the DIS top 10 and then let Pete tell us what he thinks! ;) Maybe that could then become one of the top rememberable moments!! aye, aye???

On our cruise, we had a young tween boy lay out in one of the adult only areas somewhat near us, sitting there quietly reading. It was early and just us and him. We totally didn't care, he was obviously trying to get away from all the noisy kids! :lmao: but still surprised staff never said anything to him. Later, a couple came in the area, and their kid kept coming to them, loudly talking wanting something, then would go back out to the common area, then come back in to the adult area again, etc. WAY worse than the reader who was there the whole time!

Well, who knows how old that tween actually was, but at least he was quiet. Here's my gripe: I've asked CMs about this a few times because we enjoy hanging out in the adult sections of the ship, Signals, Cove Cafe. There are always kids who come to get a drink. Four different CMs on four different occasions have told me they never say anything if the child gets his drink and leaves. I do not agree with this.

We were having an after dinner martini in Cove Cafe one evening. Two parents brought their kids in while they got their coffees. As the bartender got their drinks, another family came in, and since there was a line, the new family's kids each took a seat at the bar. They were tired and cranky. There were already kids in the CC, so how was the bartender going to kick the new kids at the bar out? And let's face it, it's not like the bartender is simply pouring a cup of coffee. A lot of those drinks take a few minutes to make.

It didn't ruin my trip, but we did let the bartender know we didn't think that was cool and did write something on our survey.

And don't get me started on parents allowing their kids to "check in" with them in the adults only areas. The adults areas are full of parents. Even if half of them allowed their children to check in there, there would be a steady stream of kids coming in to chat.

We booked the cruise, which was advertised as having adults only havens, and such I expect adults only areas to be enforced.

Um according to his publicist he was actually recovering from a knee injury.

Also for anyone that knows how celebrity at Disney works he would have skipped then lines in the first place. I don't like the kid but hate to set him raked over the coals for a fake scandal.

While I tend to follow the rules, I either a) don't bother worrying about what others are doing or b) give them the benefit of the doubt. It sounds very stressful to get so worked up over other people's choices. Also, my husband has no idea about anything on this boat- while I have done research, he is just coming along blind. He doesnt know there are adult only areas, and might not realize it unless it's a huge neon sign telling him so- on vacation, he's just not one to pay attention to the fine print. So in those cases, I guess it would be up to a CM to say something... but really, I just can't stress out about other people that much. I won't tell anyone to "relax" or anything... but it does make things more enjoyable. :)

Well said! Also I find it hard to believe that the people throwing stones don't breaks the rules at some point. It happens to all of us knowing and unknowningly.

While it is true that Guests of any age may be well behaved . . or not . . DCL can not discriminate by behavior. That is always a matter of each person's opinion.

The adult areas are not "fine print." They are clearly marked on the ship, in the Personal Navigators, in shipboard activity announcements, on the DCL website, brochures, and obviously stated as "adult only" areas on the promotional DVDs.

DCL markets their cruises with AGE SPECIFIC areas, be it family, kids' age levels, or ADULT ONLY (although only a tiny fraction of the space aboard the ships is for adults only). They should not make random exceptions. They should enforce their policies in order to deliver what they advertise. DCL is NOT just for kids. It is for everyone, and everyone is meant to have their own age specific areas in addition to those meant to be shared by all.

I walked up on the concierge level deck once. I didn't really realize what it was and it was at night. Later I looked up the deck plan and seen seen that it was labeled concierge deck. I didn't stay long but just looked around a little. Do they have signs that I might not have seen since it was dark out? I can understand how people that pay for the concierge level wouldn't want everyone on the ship wondering into that area.

They really should have CM's in each area to help people know when a area is restricted. I know the adult area has signs up but a CM wondering around that area sure could help redirect parents with kids (same for someone in concierge that really shouldn't be there too I guess). Maybe we need to use our Key to the world card to access those areas like they do in Edge and Vibe popcorn::
