ShiPooOwner - I did NOT get to the post office today. As I was headed out to pick up kids from school then go to the post office, we felt the earthquake ....I have to say I was just so freaked out I forgot to go. I will go in the morning after I drop off the kids on my way to the grocery store to stock up for the hurricane and drop envies then....YEAH we are having a great time in NC.

By the way I have 4 envies headed your way tomorrow. I will post after they are sent

I do remember once when we vacationed on Emerald Isle, NC and we were evacuated for a hurricane. I can still remember firetrucks going down the street and a fireman using a bullhorn and telling everyone to evacuate. It only cut our vacation short by one day but it was horrendous waiting in that long line of traffic exiting the island. I still NC!!

We didn't know we were in the Quake zone either. I have never felt anything like it before. It was only about 10 seconds. From what everyone is saying, people just thought they were crazy for a few seconds cause that couldn't have been real...but it WAS.

I am NOT on the coast, but in central NC, so depending were it hits, we could get tons of damage and power outages. If it goes a little further east then my area should be fine, but if it stalls then turns below us then we get hit hard.

Luv2CruiseDisney envie going out your way in the morning. I meant to go to the P.O. today but the totally forgot. Was spending the day with my mom when the earthquake happened. Never felt it but got a call from my sister who was driving when her car started shaking. She was startled to say the least. Such a weird day. Now trying to get ready in case hurricane decides to hit.

DISNY_LUVR, I mailed your envie--it's a biggie because I had lots of backlog. (If you have cats, dogs, or wear contacts, you'll be a happy gal! ) There's a bunch of Aug 31st expires that I added in case you could use them. Also, I apologize if there are any expired--I had to quickly separate the ones I'm sending to the troops before mailing and could have made a mistake.

Apologies, also, for any confusion over my joining. I didn't check in with DIS while on vacation and we were driving twelve hours home yesterday and I didn't know I made it onto the train until today!

Not too often (thank the Lord), but often enough that if something is coming towards the U.S., we take note and prepare. These storms have been known to change course at a moments notice and catch people completely unaware. and after Katrina.....well, you can never be too prepared. We were in the direct line for Katrina (although a bit in land). We didn't lose our house, just a lot of damage and we were without power and water for almost 4 weeks, so the kids and I were in NY while DH and oldest DS were home working to clean up. Would have been a lot easier on them if I would have had the stockpile of supplies I now keep on hand.
