I don't normally post to this thread (although I am a member of the train) but I had to vent and I knew that you would understand

.
I went to my favorite grocery store, Woodman's, today. Woodman's has really great prices and if I use a coupon there the net price is usually less than at the Copps during double coupons. I didn't bring my coupons with me, but Woodman's has started to tape up coupons next to items on the shelves so I ended up with a two whopping coupons. I didn't want to wait for a regular cashier, so I went though the self-check. My total was over $70 and when I scanned my two coupons one said that I needed assistance. The cashier came over and said "Oh. I need to know how much the item is." so she found it on the screen and deducted $2.69 from my total at the cashier's kiosk. She then came over to help me bag.
I paid for my items and was headed out when another cashier stopped me. She said, "The reason why the coupon wouldn't scan is because it was expired. You need to wait while I call a manager." Huh? WTH? I stopped next to the cashiers' kiosk and waited and all the while I became more and more angry. Why was I being treated like a thief and criminal? They posted the coupon and they accepted the coupon. Was I supposed to give them $2.69 back? The manager finally arrived and said "It's OK, give her the coupon," but by that time I was PISSED. I had been
detained for more than 5 minutes waiting for him. I told him that I thought it was unacceptable for them to treat me like a thief over a $2.69 coupon. He said, "Well, the coupon was expired." I told him that THEY posted the coupon next to the item and asked if it was my responsibility to verify that a coupon they posted had been expired for a week. I also said that I would have been OK if they had caught the expiration mistake at the checkout, but they accepted the coupon, my payment
and then detained me like a thief. He said he was "sorry" in that dismissive way when they just want you to shut up. I pressed the issue and asked him if he thought that I was treated as a valued customer to be detained by a cashier and made to wait for a manager like a criminal. In a very, very small voice he said "You are right." I said "Thank you!" and left. I am STILL steaming.
