Couples without kids, studio or 1 BR?

If there's just you and DH, studio or 1 BR?

  • Always rent a studio-conserves points!

  • It depends-about half the time for each

  • Rent a 1 BR unless weekend or holiday season

  • Always rent a 1 BR, after all, that's one reason we bought DVC-those 1 BRs!

I'm just trying to get an idea of whether we should consider a 1 BR or studio for just DH and myself. Our kids are grown so we don't have to worry about naps, just the 2 of us, but the idea of a 1 BR seems so luxurious. Just wondering-you couples, rent a 1 BR or studio to conserve points.

My reasoning is that I am an early riser and with a 1 bdrm I can get up, make coffee and lounge around w/o disturbing my DW still sleeping. Otherwise I have to leave the room and just meander around the grounds, which isn't a bad thing to do sometimes.

If we go during the high season we get a studio to conserve points, but if we go during a low season, we reserve a 1 bedroom. Sometimes we save the 1 bedroom for when we bring our grown children. We don't cook that much in the room, so a studio is fine for just 2 people.

It's always a balancing act between whether using points to get the better accommodations or using points to get the longer vacation.

Our basic rule of thumb is always a 1-BR whenever possible. We never get less than a 1-BR at OKW anymore because there the studios with the 2-beds feels too much like a hotel room. Studios at VWL, BCV, BWV are more like a villa, so we'll get them there whenever it's a higher season or weekend and it's necessary to conserve points. Otherwise it's the 1-BR for sure.

At VB and HH it's aways the 1-BR.

We live really close - so we go over several times a year for short trips...

If our stay is just for a long weekend - we usually do the studio. But, if we're actually taking some time off and staying for the week - we'll get the 1BR. (Your 3rd choice fits us exactly.)

I agree with disny4ever - even though it's just the two of us - DH stays up late, and I'm up early - so it's great to have the living room to allow the other to sleep...

I love that flexibility!!!

We have been members since 99 and we haven't tried the studio's yet ;) . We have tried everything (1BR,2BR,GV) but the studio. We are trying an ocean view Inn room at VB this summer when DW and myself only are going.
But I do agree with Caskbill that OKW studio's have 2 beds and that would be to much like a "hotel room". ;)

If we're going over for the Food & Wine Fest we know there's no way we will be cooking - so we get the studio. Otherwise, the 1 bdrm s our choice!

On the other hand, if the possibility came up for a quick trip and we didn't have enough points for the 1 bdrm, we certainly wouldn't skip it.:D

That 1BR does spoil you with the extra space, the jacuzzi, and the washer/dryer...makes packing a lot easier and lighter!;)

DITTO!:teeth:

We actually purchased thinking we would only need and use a studio.(it's just the two of us) Turns out we used a studio once, second time was a 1 bedroom and after that we have never used a studio again.:)

If going for the studio means I can get another trip in sooner, I go for the studio every time.

I'm like others. Got a studio first trip to VWL, next trip got a 1-bdrm at BCV, for up coming trip will go with studio at VWL again. Less points and wanted another trip. The studio the first trip gave us points to bank and some flexibility with future trips. We loved the 1-bdrm and will miss the extras. DH has already commented on no washer/dryer. I've planted the 'add-on points' seed. We'll see if it takes.

So for us, a studio for shorter/extra trips. 1 bdrm for longer stays.

Got to love the flexibility and something for everyone!

We are going Tuesday to BCV first time as owners and its just myself and my husband. We booked a 1br due to it has the washer and dryer and of course it has the king bed and jaccuzi:). We plan on really accessing the kitchen so that is another plus for us.

1 bedroom for all of the reasons expressed so far. Would not do it if we were paying cash, but it is really no more expensive than moderates with DVC.

The ocean view inn room at VB has a magnificent view. The room is so much larger than the other studio rooms. It does have the 2 beds as opposed to the bed & couch but the view will make up for it.

msdis,
Thats what we have heard.I would rather have the bed and couch:( , but we had leftover pts from OKW so we are going to try the Inn room(requested top floor, direct ocean view). But June of 2004 we are getting the Beach Cottage for 6 days.
