Hi all,

I'm meeting another couple in NYC next month and would love some of your ideas.

I need some suggestions for restaurants, $$$.

TIA

Ok, theatre district, you can't beat Carmines. Family style Italian food. So good, but books up so fast. Make a reservation today.

Little Italy? La Mela (delicious food, and they will make things that are not on menu for you). This restaurant was packed and the restaurants on either side were empty.... Fantastic food (was just there in January)

West side on 9th and 56, Bello Restaurant, excellent Italian food"

Want BBQ? Try Virgil's by Radio City, Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem... OMG my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Want pizza and to sit down in a really cool place, try John's Pizza on 44th, from the outside, nothing much, go inside and it opens up into what was once a church with stained glass ceiling and two brick ovens. Good pizza but so much more!

DH and I went to Colicchio & Sons last summer and we had an absolutely excellent meal.

It was right down the street from this (which is probably the most trippy/awesome thing we've ever done):

OMG! I heard about Sleep No More. I'm too scared to book it. On big chicken!

That restaurant is amazing, but way too high in price. It could easily between $150 and $200 per person to eat and have wine in the main dining room.

Without spoilers, can you tell me more about it?
Is it interactive? I guess I mean is there pressure on the audience to act or participate?

It looks interesting, but I want to make sure I know what I am getting into before I go...

There are just too many to choose from.

What types of food?
How much? $$$ means different thing to different people....

I also suggest you post this with details on tripadvisor's NYC forum. You will get tons of responses... (Hint: give as much info as you can....what area...food preference...price in dollars, etc)

Well, cross a haunted house with avant garde performance art and you'll start to get an idea.

Its a performance loosely based on Macbeth. But you don't sit in a theatre, you wander freely throughout several floors of a converted warehouse. There's no real lines, and only a vague script. The actors are identifiable because they're the only people not wearing masks, and you follow them around as you choose (usually running, they switch scenes fast). The "action", as it is, gets run through 3 times in each showing, so that you have the opportunity to catch scenes you "missed" the first time because you were somewhere else. The "sets" are really spooky, detailed, crazily decorated rooms that you can interact with. To a certain extent they expect you to pick up props and carry them away. They also expect you to interact with the players a bit (though you're not allowed to talk). However, there's no pressure, any interaction is organic and grows out of your actions. There are...a number of scenes involving nudity. You could conceivably visit it a number of times and always have a different experience.

DH wanted to do it because he likes crazy things. I went along with it (although 3 hours of running while 4 months pregnant was a trial). I am so glad we did.

Ooooh! Thank you! my dh loves haunted houses...I don't! These seems like something that we would like, though! I just don't like being "forced" to participate in things! Thank you!!!

I didn't read the whole thread, are you all tourists?

The best meal I had in NYC was at Bobby Flay's restaurant, Bar Americain.

It was also a unique experience to go to a dessert buffet a top a tall building in a room that slowly revolved. I cannot remember the name of the place but I remember it was at the top of some hotel.

Now if you're more the partying type, I'm sure you can find a more exciting experience. But if you want a tame evning, I thought those things were fun.

If you are doing some sort of show on Broadway - I would end the night with cheesecake from Junior's.

I am happy to try to provide some choices, if u want to send a little more detail about what u want and what sections of town (MAYBE NOT MATTER IF NOT TRYING TO catch a show), and a bit on budget. Some of my favorite "fancy" (or at least pricy) in nyc are sparks steakhouse, le bernadin, megu, daniel, and il mullino. Each is a different experience, and note that il mullino in manhattan is a wild ride, nothing like the one at swan toher than both have good food- at the il mullino in nyc, if a weekend, even with reservation, often 30-60 min wait, then when u are seated, unlimited various appetizers carried aroiund by waiters that you sort of flag down, then waiters in tnick accents basically yell the menu to you orally, then u pick based on what u think u heard. I love it, and many would argue even superior food to one in fl, but could be a bit of a surprise for some.

As I said, happy to help, but may want to move any further discussion to private message, because is the budget board, so maybe should not be discussing restaurants where 50/person PLUS tip is about absolute minimum, with no alcohol, and with alcohol, can easily get to 150-200/person, possibly even before? tip. The "joys" of big city.
