Hi all,

I am thinking of joining DVC. I primarily want it for Vero Beach for Premier, Magic, or Dream Season (mainly during thanksgiving, feb break, or spring/easter break).

1.) I know the mantra is "own where you want to stay". Is this true for Vero Beach also, or is it easier to get in during peak times because most people who bought at Vero stay @ WDW (assuming that is true)? I'm trying to decide whether to buy an OKW or VB resale, trade-off being initial price vs. MF

2.) For the people who've been to VB, how many days is "enough" at VB? Is there a limit before you get bored?

3.) Anbody got a link to a post that contained the history of maintence fees at the resorts?

Thanks for any info.

Regards,
Dave

If you really want to stay at Vero then I think purchasing there is a good idea. Many people have bought "add-ons" for Vero and really do use their points there (just like you plan to do). The pool of people competing for Vero rooms just continues to grow while the options for staying at WDW also continue to grow. Vero is really busy during the peak periods and very popular in the summer (even though the rest of Florida is generally slow).

As to how much is enough -- it really depends on the individual. I enjoy the resort but I also love the entire area. Theoretically, I could live there!

I'll try and find some dues history for you. The dues were subsidized for quite some time for early purchasers so I'm not sure what I have for "actual" dues.

I found some dues history. I'm not sure if there is some level of susbsidy for 1999-2001 or not. I know the last two years are "regular" dues. (I've rounded the amounts to 2 decimal places)

1999 -- $3.99
2000 -- $4.08
2001 -- $3.97
2002 -- $4.17
2003 -- $4.37

As with the WDW DVC resorts, last year's large increase primarily reflected increased property and health insurance costs.

Unless I'm mistaken, Vero is also one of the cheaper resorts to buy. I think I've seen resales there at $65-66 per point vs. $72+ for other resorts and $89 direct from DVC.

If you want to stay there mostly, buy there. Most people look at VB as a place to try some of the time rather than a primary destination for most years. If you buy VB, you can still use the points at other resorts at the 7 month window.

I don't remember an announcement that Vero was sold out (like they announced for HH). So I would think they are still selling for new owners.

According to the member's site, that massive fountain of timely information, VB is 90% sold out.

Then again, that could be 6 month old news;)
