Couple questions from someone renting DVC for first time

Hi all!

My family and I have our very first DVC trip coming up in about two months! I have a couple of questions that I was hoping someone here could answer for me. I'll warn you up front that they are newbie type questions. We are renting a studio at the Poly for a week, in case that matters.

1. I know that we will not have standard mousekeeping. From what I've read, I believe we will receive Trash and Towel service on Day 4. What should we do if we fill up trash or need new towels before then? I'm happy to take out my own trash...but I'm not sure that there is anywhere to actually take it out to. Would I just request an additional Trash and Towel service at a cost of $10? I don't have a problem with paying for that--just want to make sure I"m doing the right thing.

2. Does anyone have experience making a room request when they have rented points? I know that room requests are definitely not guarantees. If possible, I'd like to be on the 3rd floor of Tokelau. I wasn't sure what was the best way to request that or how far in advance I should try to request.

Thank you very much for your help! It is much appreciated!

1. Trash service is now daily along with the room checks. If you run out of towels early you can pay for towel service. If you need to empty the trash your self there are also trash rooms to do this.

2. Room requests work like normal, you can request exactly that and cross your fingers.

If you want to make a request, ask the owner of the points to add it to your reservation. If you need extra towels, you can purchase a towel pack for $6 (four bath towels, two hand towels, four face cloths and tub mat) instead of paying for the Trash & Towel Service. Just call Housekeeping and request a $6 towel pack. If you buy it before they come for Trash & Towel service, they will take the extra towels and you will need to purchase another pack.

:wave2:To the OP...I'm a DVC owner since 2008 and I still feel like the queen of newbie questions so no worries:flower3:

One more thing I will add about towels...if you don't want to pay for additional towels, you have access to free laundry rooms at the DVC resorts. Even though the Poly hotel side will have laundry rooms that require cash, there should be facilities that are free for guests who are staying in the DVC villas. (*I could certainly be wrong on this because I have never stayed at the Poly so I am not 100% sure) As far as I know, all DVC accommodations include free access to laundry facilities because they are paid for with the membership fees. In addition to laundering towels, you can also wash your clothes too which makes packing for a DVC trip so much nicer:teeth:. Of course, a lot of people don't like to do laundry on vacation, and that's fine too.

Enjoy your first DVC trip! I'm sure it probably won't be your last:laughing:

Also, it can't hurt to just ask for extra towels...they may just bring you some. If not, you can pay for extra or use the free laundry machines which I usually find very convenient.

DVC is a timeshare and timeshare operate differently than a hotel. Owners pay for everything to operate the timeshare. Nothing is free. If you want or need more towels, launder the ones you have or purchase a towel pack. Please don't just ask for freebies.

Someone asking a question is not asking for something free for heaven's sake. I do hope people are kinder on this site to newbies asking questions.

Excuse me but I was responding to jdmn2010, not the OP. I already provided the OP information on getting towels. jdmn2010 was not asking a question. Plus no one on this thread is "newbie".

Nobody is being "Unkind" jdmn2010 provided wrong information. It is unkind to let the OP have incorrect information. Additional towels are not free in a DVC timeshare. It is wrong to ask and put the Mousekeeper in an uncomfortable position. The correct answer is to launder your towels or to purchase additional towels.
