It's getting so close!!! Here are some more questions I thought of...

1. Where can I get vanilla extract in Cozumel? Is there a limit to how many bottles you can buy?

2. What is the dessert pizza offered at Palo's during the brunch?

3. I am doing Capt. Marvin's first thing on Grand Cayman day. DH and DD are going to meet me on the pier afterward. We'd like to go to either the Turtle Farm, or a beach. Which would you recommend? How would we get to either? Can you recommend a beach?

Thanks!

Erin :D

My husband and I will be on that cruise, too! Why are you asking about the vanilla extract? Is it special? I don't want to miss out something good!
See you soon!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Hi TraySee!

Cozumel has great (and cheap) pure vanilla extract. You can get the same stuff at Williams Sonoma, but it will cost anywhere from $15-$20 per bottle. Again, it's pure, not imitation. It makes a difference!!!

See you on board!

Sounds great! I will add it my cruise "shopping" list. My husband will be thrilled. :p lol
Take care,

Just off the pier there will be all sorts of "offers" by locals to take you to the turtle farm and Hell and to the beach. It is pretty reasonable.

We did turtle farm and "Hell"--believe it took about 1 1/2 hours. We had afternoon stingray excursion, so did not do the beach.

We took a cab to 7-mile beach and it was the most beautiful beach I've ever been on. We took a walk and saw lots of turtle swimming along the beach. The water is so clear you can see them great! If you want to relax and take in some amazing scenery, I would recommend the beach! I think we took a cab to the beach near the Holiday Inn. It has bathrooms, a small restaurant and bar and a place to rent jet skis and snorkel equipment and all that.

The sweet pizza is not only offered at brunch. It's a cross between a pizza and desert. Take a pizza crust, but on assorted fruit, cheese etc and throw it in the oven. Didn't work for us, our party of 6 left most of it over, but others seemed to like it. They change them around. Each of the times we were there they offered something different.

I saw several places I could get Vanilla. I bought at the first one and it was not the cheapest price; however, it is in plastic bottles which I feel safer traveling with. There is some "clear" vanilla available as well, but I only saw it in glass bottles and have never dealt with clear vanilla before, so I bought the regular kind.

I had the sweet pizza, and loved it, it was a crust covered with all kind of berries, and drizzled with a sweet sour cream/creme fraiche, the berries were raw and wonderful, they might also have drizzled honey......YUM

This is a bit off-topic, but I make my own excellent-quality homemade vanilla extract. It's not imitation -- it's real vanilla. It's easy and cheap, but it takes time. If you put it in a pretty bottle, it'd be a nice small gift.

Buy one vanilla bean from a health store (they cost about $5 apiece). Split it lengthwise -- you'll see that it's full of about a million tiny little black seed specks (just like the dots in Breyers vanilla ice cream). Put the split bean into a bottle of vodka; what do you call that smallish size bottle? not the individual-size bottles -- I'm thinking fifths? Let it sit for about a month; it'll turn carmel-brown. That's all there is to it!

When your vanilla extract is used up, you can add more vodka and repeat the process. One bean can be used about 3-4 times, though that last batch will be weaker and lesser quality.
