Hi
We went to the BLT event yesterday and needless to say it was amazing!!! But before we jump into a huge investement I have a couple of questions I thought you might be able to answer.

1. Does it matter where your "home" resort is? I thought you could stay at any resort.

2. What are the perks? Why should I do this? I read that you can not get free dining as a DVC member. So what are the perks besides staying in a Deluxe hotel?

That's all for now, I am sure I have a ton more I will be asking?:lmao:

Home resort matters if you have a particular location you want to stay at and will be disappointed if you can't. At your home resort you get a priority booking window at 11 months. At 7 months you will be able to book at any resort if there is availability and that can be difficult for certain resorts/times (BCV & BWV for F&W, VWL in Dec are a couple of examples).

If you are flexible then the home resort shouldn't be as much of a concern, but I would say that it's not the best strategy to own somewhere you never want to stay at.

DVC is about prepaying for your vacations in advance and being able to stay in Disney Deluxe accomodations for a moderate price. Do not buy based on perks b/c those are not guaranteed and could end at any time.

There are no perks because they can change or go away at anytime.

If you are happy staying at a value or moderate resort, then keep doing what you are doing and save yourself some money.

This is MORE than a "just a deluxe hotel". It's a timeshare and as such has the benefits of a timeshare as well asu full sized Home like accommodations. If you don't care that you have a full kitchen, an in room laundry, a Jacuzzi tub, a king bed, etc etc etc. then continue to stay in a hotel room. If you are used to value or moderate rooms, you probably wont see the financial value in DVC.

I don't completely agree- I was fairly content with Disney Value resorts (except for generally getting two double beds) but DW wanted less walking in resort for transportation + I wanted the option to be under cover in bad weather. I did stay at Deluxe resorts on some trips with my parents while growing up and found them nicer, just hard to justice the cost once I started footing the bill! Thus BLT studios seemed perfect for us (guaranteed queen bed, + easy transportation access [covered walkway to monorail and to bus stop {if you go through the Contemporary}]). In many seasons a lake view seems pretty cost competitive with "Preferred Location" room rack rates (if nothing else) @ an All-Star or Pop... As I recall it comes out cheaper than a typically discounted 'standard view' room at a moderate yet still has the advantages (to us) over it that I listed above!
