just got around to reading last 2 allears newsletters

3 items caught my attention, could be 'old news', didn't see it posted here though:

1) For 2009, the Contemporary Resort has added an Atrium Club Level room type in the Tower Building (12th floor) with a Magic Kingdom View and Atrium Club access. The rooms will have two queen beds and one daybed, and will sleep 5 (plus one child under age 3 in a crib).

shoots some holes in theory of converting upper un-rehabed floors to DVC/BLT

2) from a reliable anonymouse:laughing: source: As of January 5, the pools at the Contemporary will close for two months. They will be adding a kids' splash zone, redoing the pool deck (new and larger tiles), and doing a massive landscape renovation, removing all the crape myrtles and adding lots of palm trees. It will have a more tropical look throughout. While the pool is closed, the Polynesian pool will be available to all Contemporary guests.

well overdue, perhaps to divert the CR guests from the new BLT one?;)

3) (this one is filed under 'allears hears') "They are offering 100 point programs for buying into the Disney Vacation Club this summer. The usual amount is 160 points. They are trying the lower amount to see if more families will join. Additional points can be added after one year, with a minimum of 25 points at each addition. That's really nice because once you get in and see which accommodations you prefer (studio, one or two bedroom, grand villa) you can purchase the additional points. Or as your family grows, you can add the points needed to still travel in comfort

Know we were able to add on as soon as we were in the system...wondering if this is a new change to all members (whether existing, new buy-ins, or just new memberships under this promo?)

That was never going to happen since all the floors in the Tower got fully renovated. The only new thing is that starting in 2009 you could make a reservation for the Magic Kingdom View on the 12th floor, because in the past all you did was make an Atrium Club reservation and a Magic Kingdom View had to be requested on the 12th floor.

when we stayed there late '06 two of the upper floors hadn't been rennovated, north building was under asbestos removal:laughing: , rumors started to swirl re DVC both on those floors & sep entity, when did they rennovate those floors?popcorn::

They were done in sections. For example in December 2005 they had moved the Atrium Club down to the 10th floor since that floor had been fully renovated, so for a temporary time the 12th floor was a regular floor since they still had the old rooms.

I believe they had started working on the 12th floor around April or May of 2006, because they re-opened the Atrium Club on that floor in late July and in August my family and I stayed up there. Also during our stay I noticed all the Tower rooms were 100% renovated at that time.

Are you planning to purchase at BLT if it happens for sure? Also is the whole thing a sore spot with an CR Resort vet like yourself or is it good and bad? Just wondering.

I don't think we are planning to purchase there and no it's not a bad thing if it will make the Contemporary an even better location.

That's a great attitude. Sounds like the pool refurb is related to the expansion so you make a good point. Some of the changes inside for the better are likley related as well. I assume busier monorail and dining could be a negative though. At least it is not built to block MK view-I dont think you can even see it from that side.

In August 2007 our room on the 12th floor was 4847 which is the 2nd closest room to the Magic Kingdom and no we could not see the construction from there.

Besides that I have found the Monorail is already busy in the evening with alot of guests who were there because they just went to Chef Mickey's and were taking it back to the TTC, Polynesian, Grand Floridian or the Magic Kigndom to get on a Resort bus. So there were times we had to wait for another Monorail to arrive since we could not get on the one that was already there.
