To my horror I found out that the Country Bear Christmas has been retired. This is unacceptable. We should have a petition to bring it back; which prob will not happen, but one can dream right?:tink::tink: This brings up my next suggestion. I think DW needs to do more Christmas overlays. The Jingle Cruise, was a good start but I feel that on MVMCP nights, there should be some extra magic to transform the park further. Not sure why the haunted mansion at DL gets the awesome treatment and DW does not. If you could do a christmas overlay for any attraction what would it be?

WDW gets more one time, trip of a lifetime visitors than DL does. DL gets many more local guests. The one time visitors want to experience the 'everyday' version, DL visitors want something new for the season.

Thanks for the clarification, guess I made my own abbreviations.

DL also has a Small World Christmas overlay and Space Mt has a Halloween overlay. I agree that they do these things to attract the locals. The Haunted Mansion overlay causes it to be closed for a couple weeks on each end, that would be unacceptable for the once in a lifetime visitor.

Country Bears is gone completely at DL. So is TTA and CoP.

I like the disneyland holiday attractions, and we go to california just for them. I see no reason why someone wouldn't go to florida just to see them. I wish they still had the country bear Christmas. I liked the jingle cruise this year. I wish that Florida did more of this. Honestly, I feel like the holidays the last couple of years in Florida have been sort of let downs. I like the Christmas and Halloween parties but the price keeps going up and they feel less special. Disneyland is more fun for the holidays honestly.

I think that in general, seasonal overlays to attractions aren't as well-suited to WDW as they are to DL. WDW has a higher percentage of guests who are only able to come once a year at most, and they wouldn't like it as much if they couldn't experience their favorite attractions in their regular form.

I think you are missing the point. It isn't that the overlays wouldn't attract people. It's that the overlays and the downtime they require would discourage even more. DLR is most definitely much more of a "regional" park with a great percentage of repeat visitors. WDW, not so much.

1) Good thoughts, but NOT the reason for no overlays.
2) The overlays were stopped due to cost.
3) Disney was sued for song royalties for the Christmas songs.
4) WDW wanted to negotiate a cheap rate and the artists said no.
5) So, Disney stopped the songs and, thus, the overlays.
6) Plain and simple.
7) Bucks Rule.

NOTE: Those with long-time WDW-watchers have seen lots of examples of
guest experiences being removed for cost savings.

You are right about the percentages, but it is funny that you are from Jacksonville and have been there 43 times. I also think that there are people who would be inpired to make a holiday trip if they made the overlays. That would be the thing that pushed them over, to go see it.

I agree about the royalty money (in terms of Country Bears) but I will throw in another reason for no HM, etc.

They don't need to.

It is crowded as the daylights on the holidays anyway.

They don't need to spend the money, people are coming in anyway.
