My DS15 is going with his Marching Band to Orlando next week. If I got him one of those pre-paid Visa cards, the kind you can get at Wal-Mart, do you think he could use it at Counter Service restaurants in Disney and Universal?

TIA!

Yes to disney but a disney gift card would be better. I think with a visa gc he has to keep track of what's left. On a Disney gc it will be listed on the receipt. Also with a visa gc its a little harder to "use it up"

We used Disney Gift Cards for our meals on our last trip. I loaded 3 different cards with money so it wouldnt be all on one card in case we lost it. It was nice and easy and we used them at all cs places. You couldnt use it at Universal, but maybe you could just give him some cash for there. I agree with the preloaded visa being a pain to keep track of.

The pre-paid Visa isn't a great for resturants. It does not allow you to use the whole thing. It save 20% back, so if you get him a $25 card and his bill is $25, it will get declined.

As someone who works retail...those prepaid cards are a pain in the behind. If you're giving him a card with a lot of money on it so that he won't use it all up then it's fine...but once you get down to the end...you need to know the anount down to the penny to use it or it gets declined.

I would go with the disney gift cards and some cash for universal.

I wanted to add this but didn't have time.

But like the other said, when it gets down to less than a meal's worth. You have to tell the clerk how much to charge on credit, the exact amount left, and then give the rest in cash or another card.

With a Disney GC they run the card it debits the amount left on the card and then the cashier asks for the balance.

One other thing is there such a thing as a Universal GC.

One one other thing, he should have more then one card in case he loses it.

For my last band trip we gave the kids one card per day. If they lost it they could starve for a day. ;)

Where do you get the Disney gift cards? Can you get them at check-in or in the sundries store when you arrive? thanks Brent

Yes you can get them at the gift shops but most people buy them before hand. They use it as a way to save for a vacation.

Its better then just packing it away in a savings account because once on a GC you can't spend it anywhere else. Also many get them as gifts.

Though at least around here you can buy them at all the Super Markets and Sam's Club's, maybe Walmart, I think I've even seen them at Home Depot.

Our local Giant Eagle has a customer loyalty program where you get 10 cents off per gallon for every $50 spent. But for GC its 20 cents sometime.
