Hi. Planning our first DLR trip....leave in 17 days!!!:cheer2:

I am looking for recommendations for your favorite Counter Service restaurants??? I have read a lot about the table service places, but could use some help with counter service.

Thanks so much.

Three of my favorites are:
-Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country: serves really big burgers and sandwiches.
-Rancho del Zocalo in Frontierland: good mexican
-Redd Rockett's Pizza Port in Tomorrowland: decent pizza, pretty good pasta

At DCA, Award Wieners had pretty good hot dogs, but for the most part, the CS is lacking in my opinion. A lot of DIS members recommend heading out of the GCH entrance to DCA and turning immediately left to eat at White Water Snacks, which is in the hotel and has good food.

My favorites:

White Water Snacks (in the GCH)
Pacific Wharf Cafe (DCA)
Redd Rockets Pizza Port (Tomorrowland) not for pizza, but chicken fusilli & salad.
Riverbelle Terrace for breakfast (Mark Twain - yum)

Rancho del Zocalo - Dinner
Riverbelle Terrace - Breakfast/Lunch

Taste Pilot's Grill - DCA
Pacific Wharf Cafe - DCA
Hungry Bear - DL/Critter Country
White Water Snacks - GCH

Taste Pilots Grill is the best!

Their veggie burger is so delicious....I can't to have one next week!

I really enjoyed the ribs at Taste Pilots....

The bread bowls of soup are good too...available at Pacific Wharf.

The Critter Country place is always good too.

Those are probably my favorites....but I think I'm in the minority...usually we end up to eat wherever we are, versus making a special trip to the restaurants

DL-Rancho del Zocalo. Being half Mexican, and a native Arizonan, I was pleasantly surprised. My hubby loved it, and said we need to eat there again when we go in January. It's ginormous portions too. :)

We also loved Bengal Barbecue for a snack. The Banyan Beef skewer is pretty spicy and delicious. :)

DCA-Pacific Wharf Cafe. The broccoli cheese soup is PHENOMENAL, and the chinese chicken salad I had was good too. When we go again, I'm doing the soup though...Oh, and don't get any espresso drinks there. Too sweet.

HTH. :goodvibes

Counter service I like Taste Pilots Grill in DCA! And corn dogs...if those count as counter service

In DL I like bengal bbq or pizza port :) They do have good pasta, think it is also available at the plaza inn. They have good kids meals that are a great portion for a not so hungry adult :)

Eeyore, when will you be there in Jan? We are going in Jan too! :)

I like Rancho Del Zocalo and Pizza Port in DL, Taste Pilot's Grill and Corn Dog Castle in DCA and White Water Snacks is really good too. :)

Edited to add......

We really like breakfast at RiverBelle Terrace too. Good portions and good food!

I really liked Taste Pilots in DCA. Good chicken sandwich and really good salad. Plus they have a condiment bar which is just awesome!

Probably not real helpful, but I always eat whereever I'm at when I'm hungry, though it has to be a place my picky DH will eat at. Which means I haven't eaten at more than half those places! (So jealous...)

I do want to mention Captain Kidd's and Cold Stone's, just for some close variety. If you go out to the bus/shuttle area, and then cross the street at the crosswalk, you'll see both of these (Cold Stone's is now part of Park Vue Inn). I'm not fancy, and Captain Kidd's had so much variety. I believe they have a buffet option (or maybe that was just breakfast?)

Oh, and DH and I enjoyed our pizza and caesar salads at Pizza Oom Oom (I don't know exactly what it's called, but that's what we call it!) in DCA. Again, we're not fancy.

We're gonna do a little quickie road trip there the 23-25....it's tentative, but that's what we're thinking!

We got addicted to pin collecting on our trip, so we figure pin purchasing is a good excuse for the quickie trip. :rotfl:

Whitewater Snacks is our new favorite because everytime we went during the summer it was quiet, uncrowded, and had good food at a resonable price.

We also enjoyed Bengal BBQ. We each picked out our own meat kabobs and then split several veggie ones. Yummy! :)

Bummer, we will be gone by then. Oh well, you'll have fun!!! I love quickie trips!! We did so many last year. :) Pin trading is our major addiction right now, I have bought so many pins the past couple of months....LOL

LOL, I know what you meant here (bolded), but when I read it I had to laugh. If you didn't have so many tags already, I'd say this would be a good one! :rotfl2:

Also, someone mentioned Captain Kidd's...just wanted to chime in here and say this place gets a REALLY bad rap, but I don't think it's so terrible. I find it to be pretty standard family restaurant quality. Just STAY AWAY FROM THE BUFFET. Order off the menu.

Pizza Port in Tomorrowland - chicken fusili is great. Portions are big. Side salad is also good.
Pacific Wharf - brocolli cheese soup in a bread bowl...yum!

Personally, I'd avoid leaving the park just to eat. It's a waste of time. You may save a dollar or two but you'll lose a lot of time in the parks. However, if you're already leaving the park for other reasons...that makes sense.

We did Captain Kidd's, both off the menu and the buffet. DBF had the buffet, he said it was disgusting. I had a salad, most of lettuce was wilted so bad it was clear......what wasn't clear was slimy, I ate the topping, the cheese, the cherry tomatoes, the croutons, the cukes (which were dry but still edible) and the chicken strips, that was it. Luckily I had asked to get my Ranch on the side so I just picked and dipped. The kids' meals were fine tho so if we went again I'd just get a kids meal instead of an adults meal. :)

I agree. If you are leaving just to go eat and then return it's actually a waste of money because you are losing so much time in the park! But if you are on the way back from a nap and want to eat before you arrive then I may do that...just wouldn't waste that time to go out of my way to eat. :thumbsup2
