Counter Service Eateries and seating.

Ask a CM and they will be happy to help. And as others have said, the no seat before food rule only applies during peak times.

Lovely thanks, sounds like it isn't going to be a stressful experience so I might start looking at some of the menus and choose a few to try while we are visiting.

Thanks everyone for their help.

I do this for just about every meal. I love to already know what we are most likely going to get, with a few modifications, of course. I hate wasting time polling the whole family, "Who wants what?"

I've been to WDW a ton of times and you have educated me. I NEVER knew there were issues with finding your seats first. I ALWAYS have done that. Sit with the kids and send DH for the food. Sometimes he has made 2 trips or a CM has helped. Mostly he just manages two trays.

For goodness sake, unless there are very limited seats, sit down with the baby before you get your food. It doesn't look like you're going during a peak time, so you should be fine.

Jeepers, sorry for asking such an exasperating question.

Being only my second trip, I rely on here mainly for information. I had read of the new policy so was trying my best to understand it and not to cause any issues during my visit.

It would appear however, from the replies, (which have been most helpful,) that the policy isn't always in force, CM's will quite often help, and I can teach my 5 year old to carry a tray, so I am happy I posted the thread.

I read through it, but I didn't see where you addressed this...why can't your husband carry two trays?

We have a family of 5, I get a table and get the kids started on whatever beverages or snacks we may have brought while my husband gets in line. Then he carries all the food back to us. We've never had an issue with either him or I carrying two trays.

Maybe I am over estimating the amount of food you get, but I know I couldn't carry two trays, I either carry one with both hands, or if I should have a child with me I can carry with one hand and rest the tray up my arm and hold it into place with my body but find this rather wobbly.

Any how doesn't really matter now it shouldn't be an issue, now back to the menus, getting a bit hungry looking at them all.

I was actually trying to be helpful. I wasn't at all exasperated with your question and I was being open and honest. The "for goodness sake" phrase was there because I was thinking of all the times I've seen people debate this issue and others and get bent out of shape because someone might sit down before they get their food.

I am not often "snarky" on here and there's only one particular poster I've ever been exasperated with :rotfl:. Sometimes the written word can be tricky though and I'm sorry for the misunderstanding :goodvibes.

Again, trying to be helpful - but you really won't have to worry about it. Just do what you feel is right for your family. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

thank you think I might have been a bit over sensitive. Think I should go to bed.

During the time you are going you should be fine. FWIW we saw the sign up in September last year at Peco Bill's and at Columbia Harbor House we were scooted off to the side to wait and DH joined us after he had food and we were escorted to our seats. So while I think you will be fine... there is always the off chance you hit a busy day and get there right at peek lunch time you'll run into this situation. In this case there will be a CM escorting you to your table ANYWAY so them carrying a tray for you should be easy.

I agree with PP and avoid peek eating times. Eat before 11:30.

If there are plenty of empty seats and no sign and no CM directing guests then grab a seat.

I often carry all of our meals on a tray when I travel alone with DD's and am sometimes pushing a stroller. It shouldn't be much of a problem if you get more than one tray.

I am all for politeness. I believe in doing things the right way. Heck, I wrote an article on line etiquette last week.

That being said, I personally think that unless you are at a restaurant on an insanely crowded day, this is really a total nonissue. If you have a baby plus small children, I don't think reasonable people expect you to carry baby + food trays.

As stated in earlier posts, even if it's crazy crowded, you can always ask a CM for help if you need it.

No worries. Its true that sometimes written words can miss the true intent :goodvibes. Get some rest and happy planning!

In the past I would put kids in a seat and return to help him carry the trays.
Except during the busiest of times when most or all tables are taken, this is perfectly acceptable. It's especially okay if you are eating at slightly "off times"---lunch before noon, etc.---when tables are plentiful.

times I go with just my kids and need to carry trays or multiple things, I stand with kids, pay, get tray #1 walk it to table and leave tray and whatever else I can then walk back with kids and get tray #2. At most CS place its steps away to return to the counter so walking back you can still see what you left there and be back in seconds.

I have also seen a CM standing at the counter to assit with trays if needed.

This happened at Hs for us this year. I told the cm I would be right back for the other tray. He offered to bring it to the table for me. :thumbsup2
