Countdown Calendars for kids?

Have you all done any kind of countdown calendars for your kids before your DL trips? I'm looking for creative ideas for my kids (3 and 5) for some kind of countdown from 10 days down (we are now 12 days out!). Any fun suggestions?

We did a chain to count down. We have been counting down since day 72 (when I told them about our vacation). We are now 12 days out until we leave!!!

we've done the chain before, too. it works really well unless the kids are so tiny they don't understand why you can't take them all off NOW, lol!

this year, we're just using a giant calendar. we use it for homeschooling, and the kids stick the dates on each day (they stick with velcro). since they understand how a calendar works, they can see how many days we have until we leave (just 5 more, YAY!!!).

I've seen some on this board, I'll look for them.

Some were made with the Mickey head paint chips they have at Home Depot, they were very cute!

We've done two different types. One was tape the mickey (HD Paint chip) onto the calender. The other, we took a long strip of paper with a big Mickey on the top. We glued 25 Hershey Kisses down the strip. Each day she opened a kiss intul they were all gone. You could decorate the strip with various stickers and pictures

I LOVE the HD Mickey's idea! There's some creative ideas, that's exactly what I was looking for...now why didn't I think of this sooner?!

So, we just did a calendar that I made on poster board, and DD gets to put a Mickey sticker on every day until we go! She's only 2 1/2 so she just likes the idea of using the stickers, I don't think she really gets it haha. It's kind of like her potty chart
