Could you travel on vacation by yourself?

DH and I both take vacations without each other. We're traveling with people so it's not like we are traveling alone. He goes with a couple of his soccer buddies to road games, and MLScup. I go to Disney. Either visit my parents who live near WDW, or we (my parents and I) will schedule a trip to DL during the NFFC convention in July. Usually I go when other friends from my home state are traveling there too. DH gets Disneyied out, and I have no interest in the soccer games. This way we both get to do what we want, and we still vacation together too.

The only rule is we can't go someplace international for the first time that the other wants to travel to. For example, DH can't decide to go to South Africa with his buddies for the World Cup without me, because I want to go to South Africa. And I can't go with my parents to Disneyland Paris and add on a stop in London, because he really wants to go to London.

been there, done that, would go alone again if necessary.

When I was 21 I backpacked across Europe for a month by myself. Well the first week I was with friends. I met them in Italy. Riding the train at night along the Italian Riviera and only remembering I was supposed to get off at a stop that started with an A- (Oh did I mention there are 2 that start with an A right next to each other?)
So I met some guys on the train- all of whom told me which was probably my stop. I got off and hoped for the best.
Thankfully I was right.

Then after a week of traveling together. They went home and I went on to Greece.
WOW! What a great time. I met so many people. I was never alone on my solo trip. I have some great pictures and memories forever. It was fantastic and I would suggest it to anyone. I became an adult on that trip!

I've done it. I was actually booked to travel with a large group, bus tour around England for 11 days, because I was afraid to travel there by myself. I'm talkijng a NATO country that actually speaks English. I arrived the night before our group met and wandered around London a bit. That alone got me over my jitters of traveling alone.

When I went back to Heathrow Airport to meet up with the group in the morning, I realized I really didn't want to be stuck with most of the members of the group --> :clown: :hippie: :ewok: :jester: pirate: for a full 11 days. :scared1: I went into the bathroom to pull myself together, and somehow, when I came out, the group had left without me - only my bag was left in our meeting spot. I suppose I could have run, to try to find which exit they went to board the tour bus. But, for some reason I hesitated. :rolleyes1

I ended up blowing off that trip, (and the non-refundable money spent, :headache: ) and used what little money I had left to book smaller 1-3 day tours here & there, planning my own itinerary using Rick Steves tour books & the tours in British Airways travel guide, in my own time frame, staying in lovely B&Bs, and completely had a blast! I even went to France, thru a Chunnel tour for one day. (Much too short a trip. :teleport: ) But it was totally unexpected, and I loved it. :yay:

I'm thinking of going to Ireland for my next trip.
