I'm in the same boat - and I even read the official page! I looked at the contest description page when it was a banner and it made no sense to me. One big prize but the rest of it seemed confusing, and did not interest me at all.

Good luck to the photo team, I guess. If it was related to the "celebrity sightings" a few weeks ago, though, color me against it. I'm not interested in such things, thank you very much. Fortunately they didn't get much response in here.

I'd rather see Disboards work on improving their server performance and bandwidth (and especially the search functionality) rather than putting money into prizes. Just one guy's opinion... OK, I'll turn curmudgeon mode off now.

They did sign the papers for new equipment. From my limited computer/server knowledge it looked to be 3-4 times better. Went from a 500 bus to a 1500 bus, dual dual processors etc..
they posted a thread named something like present for everyone...
I do not remember seeing a launch date.

Old Server- Dual Xeon 3.06 533 FSB with 3 gigs of ram and 2 18 gig SCSI drives (no raid)

New Server- HP DL360 G5 - 2 Dual Core 5160 Intel 3.0 Xeon's with a 1333 FSB, 4 Gigs of Ram and 2 36 SAS drives (raid 1) running 64 Bit Red Hat Linux ES

I'm thinking that's enough extra horsepower to make a bit of a difference!

My hope is that the search functionality was disabled because of server overloading, not because it was irreparably broken. I can handle it not being lightning-fast but the searches not working are pretty frustrating.

No RAID on the current hardware? Yikes! They're awfully lucky that they haven't had a hard drive failure.
