Could you pass on this deal?

That's what happens when you own DVC and AP's. A few years ago when we could regularly get RT SW flights from New England for around $120 each, DD and I used to take several long weekend trips a year. We would get a 4 day trip for under $500 for the both of us. I remember one year figuring out that my AP had cost me around $14 per day!

In my circumstance, I have an AP. If the flight were that cheap and I could secure a DVC room, then I would definitely book it. I could always watch the food budget by eating in the room or just QS.

I would go.

We did a four night trip last fall, but we did not go to the parks except for one night at the Halloween Party. We had a late breakfast at O'Hana one morning, went to Disney Springs, swam at the pool a lot, went to FW for take out at Trail's End and then went to the singalong. We never were bored and had an awesome trip!

LOL!

I own DVC and have plenty of points. My AP expires in October. My husband still has 4 days on a no-expiry pass. My TiW expires in November. I have a Southwest Companion Pass and plenty of RR points. And a fistful of Disney GCs that could pay for all our meals. I could go to Disney any time and only pay the small 9/11 fee as long as I could get a ride to the airport from my house.

We just don't have the time to go between now and October!

Oh Dear, what a situation. I hope you suddenly find an opening!

If I could swing it, I'd do it. You could always do a parks-less trip and maybe just do the Halloween party, or a few days at F&W or something!

Then again I am always trying to scheme my way to Disney via cheap SW flights ;)

We also live in NJ and have a long weekend every year for Jewish holidays in either late Sept or early Oct.
We have been taking advantage of cheap airfares, cruise fares and/or free dining ever since our 10th grader was in pre-k.
Last year we did a long weekend at Universal. The year before 3-night cruise on the Dream.
This year will probably be another 3-nighter on the Dream and since he'll still be off the day after we disembark, we'll probably spend a day in MK.
I say go for it!

I love this idea! DH thinks I will have a hard time not going to EPCOT or DHS, but it would be nice to slow down and enjoy some things we don't normally do.

I just spoke to my DD5 and asked how she would feel about a trip where our only park time would be for the Halloween party. She was very enthusiastic about getting more time at the pool, so I might just have to go for it!

:yay:You're going to Disney World!

While resort touring, check out the new Princess Promenade event every afternoon at 3:30 near the grand staircase in the Grand Floridian lobby! Your little DD can dance with Cinderella and Prince Charming. It's a short little event, so don't be late or you'll lose your glass slipper and your coach will turn into a pumpkin! And it's free!

In a heart beat I would go! And as a DVC member - I would encourage you to see if APs make sense to allow you to go/cover your 2017 trip too!!

With the recent announcements of Disney After Hours at the MK costing $149 pp, there's speculation that MNSSHP will end up being in that price range (or even more!). Will a huge price increase for the party affect your plans, OP?

ETA: The dates for MNSSHP were announced a couple of days ago (without pricing) and the dates that you would be able to go, based on your OP, would be arrival night (9/30) or Sunday 10/2. HTH!

Same situation - same weekend. I'm waiting to see if Free Dining materializes this month. We have a trip planned for Feb 2017 (and $ already set aside). If it happens, I'd get an AP to use for both trips and pull that money from the Feb fund, since it'll be part of both trips (yes, I'm an obsessive planner). The only thing that's holding me back is the current rack rates combine with all the new "extras". I'm not willing to over-spend on a non-planned vacation.

I would jump on it.
My DH and I never consider meals a deciding factor, because we would have to eat that week anyway, so for an unexpected trip we just cut down eating out for a few weeks before and after to make up the difference in what we would spend to eat there vs at home.
Park tickets, hmmmm birthday gift? Early Christmas gift? Treat the family to APs and make your next trip within a year of that trip.
My DH asked for an AP for his birthday/Father's Day gift because we have a fall trip planned, and we would like to squeeze in a summer trip before the boys go away to college and grad school.
When the airfare is that good and the room is covered, you make the rest work.

Good grief! A huge increase in party price would certainly impact my plans in that I would scrap the party! TBH, I'm not sure we could go and not hit EPCOT (food and wine) or DHS (Star Wars) or MK (bc, MK :earsboy:).

As some others have suggested, I might try to make APs work, especially if I was able to do them as holiday gifts (birthdays, Christmas, etc). Then maybe I could do October, possibly makes a birthday trip work, etc before our big 2017 trip.

Aside from the money, my biggest factor is travel dates. As a teacher I am limited to traveling at all off he most crowded times, so I feel as though I need to jump on this opportunity!

i love the way you look at the food aspect! On top of that, my family is not big on sit down meals. We are happy with Artist Palette at SSR, Earl of Sandwich at Disney Sprngs, etc. For lunches it would even make sense for me to get cold cuts and bread to bring sandwiches into the park (dd5 eats like a bird). Heck, I would eat ramen noodles if it meant I was eating them from the balcony of my studio overlooking Cinderella's Castle :cool1:

Are our DHs related? In cahoots? Mine desperately wishes to go somewhere else...adults only...sigh.

I'm a teacher, so I totally understand having to pick trips carefully. If we want to go for a week or longer it would have to be during Christmas, Spring Break, or summer. All three not the most appealing of options. This random 4 day weekend we have in October is an anomaly that would give us the rare chance to vacation at lower crowd levels than we are used to.

Honestly, if I had just been in November and my DH was desperately wishing for an adults only trip then I'd be looking for cheap airfare somewhere that he would enjoy and we'd do a quick adult trip.

If we did this trip I'd definitely look to schedule the 2017 trip so that we could take advantage of buying annual passes - think of all of the other long weekend trips I could finagle in 365 days! :thumbsup2:rotfl:
This is my problem. We have a December trip and because I just saw really good airline tickets for this spring, I'm considering getting annual passes in December so that I can jump on the deals next time they roll around! But then that's $1500 right there! I have a problem lol
