Could you describe the movement on Soarin

Seeing that some of you wrote this ride makes you ill, can you describe the movement of the seats? I'm not too concerned about the screen, I can always close my eyes, but does the seat itself move in a funky way?

Does it go back and forth and side to side? Like a swing in two directions? Does it move constantly or stop every once in awhile?

Thank you!

You sit in a seat that does move. It goes along with the movie as if you were actaully hang-gliding, so you go up and down some, and tilt a little. Nothing is jerky or violent, it is a gentle ride.

Hard to describe, but as you enter the theatre, there are 3 rows of seats and you buckle in. Then the rows elevate so they are on top of each other and you all face the enormous screen. You move along with the movie.

The actual movement of the seats you are sitting on is extremely minimal. After you have ridden the ride several times, you might find yourself (I do) looking around a bit to see how the ride actually works (I do this on all rides, I am nosey, LOL). You will see that the seats tilt forward, backward, sideways ever so slightly (really, very little), but, your body movement senses, in conjunction with the visual of the screen (and a gentle breeze from onboard fans), makes you think you are tilting or leaning more than you actually are. You sometimes feel like you could maybe slide in your seat, but, assuming you would not jump out of your seat, you could probably safely ride it without the seatbelt. Obviously that would not be safe, but just trying to convey the fact that you really have very little true movement, it is your eyes and the movie, coupled with very gentle and slight movements. Enjoy.

Make sure to check the links here too........

I am VERY prone to motion sickness and I was fine on this ride! In fact it's now one of my favorites!

I would describe the movement as similar to a ski lift. If you've ever been on a chair ski lift that's about the same amount of movement and direction as Soarin'. I went on Soarin' when I was 8 months pregnant last summer with ds and had no problems whatsoever. Fabulous ride!!!!

I am afraid of heights but can handle Soarin'. In fact, I'm glad I read this thread because I had no idea the seats actually move along! That's how minimual the movement is. After the initial "lift off" it's so smooth.

I'm prone to bouts of vertigo and I LOVE 'Soarin. The movement doesn't bother me at all. There is a scene with a helicopter taking off that makes a little woozy every time I see it, so I just close my eyes now for 8 seconds and am fine. Not sure what it is about that helicopter that bugs me... :confused3

It's an awesome ride. Don't miss it! :thumbsup2

See, now I'm the exact opposite. I don't suffer from motion sickness at all, yet that ride makes me sick. I can ride anything else (except mission space but thats for a different reason).
My DH can't do teacups, star tours and the like, but has no problem on soarin.

I get motion sickness on regular swings, but I still loved soaring. My stomach got a litle upset, but nothing too bad,a nd it was certainly worth it as it is such an awesome ride!!!!!

I'm afraid of heights, thought this ride would be no problem, and I got off and cried. The other members of my party thought this was awesome, I was scared out of my mind.

As others have said, the ride is very smooth. The actual motion is minimal and if you're afraid of heights you can ask to be seated in the row that is the lowest. My 70+ year old mother, who won't even ride Pirates of the Caribbean (the short ramp early in the ride freaks her out), LOVED this ride. She had to really psych herself up to try Soarin' but after riding it once wanted to do so again and again.

My 63 y.o. mom is terribly afraid of heights, can't go past the 2nd step on a ladder.
She gave a little eek! when it first raises you up to be at the height of the movie screen but then she was fine. When we got off she said she loved it! :)
I think the movement is a lot like Pteranydon (sp?) Flyers in IOA.

We just got back and I had to ride Soarin. I am scared of everything. Dinosaur terrifies me. I can't even do a merry-go-round. But this ride looked so neat I had to try. I never got sick. A couple of times I had to close my eyes, when we flew a little too high or sideways. But it was great, I would have done it again but the lines were too long. You have to give it a try, it is worth it. :cool1:
