could we start a thread looking for single cruisers that would like to cabin-share?

I know that there are websites that offer ads for cabin mates, but to me, it seems most of them are men looking for a young female and her cruise would be paid for. **wink wink**

Now that my kids are adults, and my DH does not get as much time off as I do for vacation, I am going to be looking to do some solo cruising in my golden years. I would love to be able to find someone to share the cabin so I won't have to pay the double occupancy.

Has this been attempted before? We have a cruise meets thread, how about a in search of a cabin mate thread?

I think this is a great idea. I still cruise with my spouse but if he was not available, I would certainly be interested in finding a same sex, similar age companion to share a cabin. I hope this thread becomes popular for finding cruise/cabin mates.

While I understand the objective of such a thread (or forum), I wouldn't see it happening. I know that Cruise Critic did have such a forum at one time. But matching random strangers, who are going to spend XX number of days (and nights) in a tiny room can be really hazardous, in some cases.

CC stopped their forum some time ago.

I'd suggest you check out your nearest senior center, or maybe your religious group (if you have one) for other singles who may be a better match for you. People you can meet up with months before booking/taking a cruise to make sure you mesh well.

I went on a cruise with a friend, and she got the bed. I was stuck on the pull down bed and I said I would never do that again. I knew how comfortable the real beds are, but I was laying there on a very uncomfortable bed. That would be one consideration when sharing, let alone staying in a room with a stranger. Then again, we usually never meet college freshman roommates before moving in.

Ah, but we are young, and adaptable at that age. And, generally, if roommates don't work out, adjustments can be made. Not so much on a cruise.

I must agree with Princess Shmoo on this. I love Disney1fan2002's idea. But I think a safer version would be something akin to Shmoo's suggestions.

I'd rather cruise less often and have my own room. I went on the Greece cruise with a friend and it just showed me that I'm truly a solo traveler. I'm too used to my space, my independence, and NO ONE ELSE moving around and making noise at night. Even just the noise from her turning over would wake me up - most likely because I'm not used to anyone else being around. It's just me and my cat, and unless he's covering poop in the litter box, he is quiet.

Plus? I knew her and have known her for years. (I also know that she is a teacher and had to be fingerprinted and undergo a background check.) You don't get that kind of reassurance from a stranger.

Also, Disney makes the sleeping arrangements more challenging. Would you agree to pay more if you got the queen? Would you expect to pay less if you got the sofa? And how would you determine who got what? I may hate split beds, but at least you'd each have your own and it would be the same size on another line.

I have been eaten by them too many times on RCCL to ever want them again. I may not have liked HAL overall, but at least they were intelligent enough to buy the straps to hold the mattresses together.. RCCL just "sheets them tightly" and I guess hopes people will stay on one side or the other. I'd literally end up with my entire arm and/or leg between the mattresses on Radiance to the point I'd have to wake up to change positions. And all the deck boss would do is "add some more layers of sheets".

That makes for a HILARIOUS story!!! But no doubt not at all funny at the time.

It's funny, I slept on the DCL split beds multiple times with them "together" as well as split as 2 beds. And they had some sort of piece that filled and sort of covered the gap on top of the mattress (under the linens of course), that you could really hardly tell, and we never had anyone fall into the crack!

I've had friends use "singles cruise" .com and had a great experience. It's not for matching you to meet others romantically... it's just what you are seeking- being matched up to a roommate and activities, etc planned for you as a group. They've had great experiences on these cruise and met great friends

Both of my Royal cruises I was on solo I asked about it after being eaten the first night. Both times I was told they did not have straps but would try to tighten the sheeting. My host on Brilliance was much better at it as I was never eaten again on that cruise.

As a solo, couldn’t you just ask that they split the bed? I would not want to be eaten by a bed.

Not having beds that split is my main objection to sailing on DCL when I sail with friends, not DH.
